Definitely more positive. CE is a pretty negative place.

People in this topic are complaining that they're making it a drama instead of a comedy, but I guarantee if they made this a comedy, then the complaints would be that it will suck because it won't be funnier than the original.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this story will play out.

It looks amazing but I guess I had envisioned as more of a "charming sitcom" feel like the original instead of being all "serious." I want to watch but it'll take a bit of getting used to lol

I remember watching the original fan trailer and I was very interested and excited that it was turning into a real thing.

Honestly? It looks good. But its also one of those reimaginings that will probably be hurt more by using an old IP then just literally using different names. could have acknowledged the inspiration and done something new. No problem.

But whatever. Hollywood gonna Hollywood.

I think if you go in knowing its supposed to be a far more serious drama and its a more realistic take and just kinda forget its a reimagining, then youll probably enjoy it more.

At least thats my take on this.

I could see the criticism of "not another reboot/Hollywood is out of ideas" if Will Smith himself wasn't the one making this happen. Since he is, I feel like there's a lot more thought/care involved than just a typical cash grab.

for a reboot that nobody asked for, this doesn't look too bad.

but still, i'd rather stick with the original, thank you very much!

How weird to see this as I'm rewatching the first season right now.

I'll check it out next month for sure. Can't believe they made a more serious take. Hope its good.

WTF Will was an accepted peer by his school mates. His friends thought he was the coolest person in the world. Him trying to get bullied is a deal breaker for me.

They didnt really show it but not everyone was on his side. There was that one English teacher of his and cornflake. A small group of people thought he was cool but then you also had the typical Carlton types who thought his antics and loudness were not right for the school. This being a drama series of course theyre going to emphasize that more.

Idk, it doesn't look awful, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to shake off the original show.

There is a good story to tell here in a serious manner, but tying it to the old show doesn't sit fully well.

Not to mention it started as a fan project. A group of amateur film makers shot a fake trailer for a serious Bel Air reboot and Will Smith saw it and called them in to make it really happen. This wasnt something just thrown together. Seems like those in charge of it are going to take care of it.

It looks like a pretty good show on it's own. Being a "reboot" of a classic comedy is where I think it's going wrong.

"This town will try to make you forget who you are... ya know... playing basketball and riding bikes and shit..."

Looks fucking awful in every way imaginable...

Looks alright, but I'm not really feeling the more dramatic style. Doubt I'll watch it.

It looks like it'll be okay but jmit's going to be hard accepting anyone as Uncle Phil and Carlton other than James Avery and Alfonso Ribeiro. Honestly I would rather they'd just continue the original show...

They should cast a different race this time, like they've done with other reboots (like the Wonder Years). Granted, I think this is more of a gritty drama, so... that's a little different?

the new Wonder Years series focuses on a new family, so it's not really a reboot.

it just takes place in the same universe, or something like that.

This forced drama crap dilutes everything that happens in said drama. There's nothing at stake and there's no humanity...

So they took all the humor and charm out of it and turned it into a CW style teen drama...

Oh well, I know there wouldn't be any point in a reboot if they just did the same formula as the original but I have no desire to watch this

This is new. It just happens to be based on something else. A lot of shows are based on the same idea. This is no different. Bel Air is just a known series and those characters are as well so why not use them?

I'm well aware all these reboots are there just to ride on the coattails of popularity. Most of the time it's because the creators know the show wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell if left to stand on its own two feet.

This. Always be weary of the reboot that doesn't respect it's source material...

Imagine a version of Fresh Prince with zero fat jokes about Uncle Phil... that's the version we're getting...

whether this show ends up being good, bad, or somewhere in the middle, it's not going to have any effect on the legacy of the original sitcom.

I'm not opposed to reboots, revivals, re-revivals, reimaginings, pre-imaginings, pre-revivagining, or genre bending. I'm up for turning just about any existing franchise into anything else in any way possible. I still am not sure I care about this though. I'll give it a shot but it just doesn't draw me in, at least not based on the trailer. The fan one looked better, imo.
