No spoilers as I didn't watch it yet but I looked up the score on IMDB and....

Fucking 5/10
Why? how can you fuck that up? this season was literally made as an apology for the terrible ending of S8. All they had to do was think up of a ending that would satisify the viewers.
And up until now (I still have to watch E9 and E10) it looked very promising

This is fucking annoying

No spoilers, but when you tell us something all season long, and then in the end have something happen that would absolutely do the opposite of what you have been trying to do the whole season, it makes no sense.

The memes on r/Dexter are out of control right now.

I have no major issues with what ultimately happened in the episode but the way it was done was just, so so bad. We needed maybe another episode or two to let things stew before it ended.

The funny thing is, recently i was "skim watching" (only watching best parts/like 25% of an episode and skipping subplots and filler) the later seasons of Dexter that get panned, but even the atrocious 6 and 8 really have their moments, I always liked 5 more than most people, and 7 is pretty good too (whether it's good in isolation or because it follows 6...)

They hold up really well on a "skim watch". But in anticipation of the New Blood finale I was skim-watching the season to-date and man... I can't see New Blood being a season of television I'd ever fully sit down and rewatch, even before seeing the finale. Just so bad in so many areas. The magic of the original series was well and truly gone.

Waiting until Nanis watches last episode so the spoiler tags can start flowing.

Dexter New Blood screamed to me that it was going to end the way it did.

Im really happy he didnt just get arrested though and go back to Miami.

My preferred ending wouldve been him not killing coach and having the female cop let him go after realizing he was a good guy like she did with his son. Then both of them heading into the horizon together, opening an avenue for another season maybe even.

Finished it

Yeah that was bad. Like very very bad, what the fuck actually?
The episode was okay-ish up until the last 15 minutes when Dexter met Harrison and then what the fuck was that?
What was that stupid change of heart?? Even more, Harrison just killing his father like that? what? this is his first and he just...did that so easily? even for a fucked up kid, that's out of character

Any of the 'good' endings were just never going to happen...you really think an American TV show
is going to end with a cop letting a serial killer go loose...besides, Harrison totally had a
point; Dexter killed bad guys because it was an excuse in the Code, not because he actually cared
all that much.

The ending was pretty sloppy, it just felt rushed. I mean, the irony of 'saving' Harrison by having him actually kill someone was...what were they thinking? I was thinking maybe Dexter was going to give
Angela a chance with the Matt Caldwell case, but would give her Kurt's bunker in exchange for
forgetting the BHB stuff, but I guess they wanted to end it definitively.

Spoilers (tired of black bars)--

What annoys me that most is that I enjoyed the season. I felt like it was up to par with the first three seasons (4 is still better)
I wanted to recommend it to my friends (who were super pissed about the ending when S8 ended) and wanted to tell them how they managed to redeem S8
But now I can't

I am willing to let Dexter killing Logan slide
I am not sure it was out of character because it was done in the past (with La'Guerta) and as they said - the first rule of the code is don't get caught
I am even willing to let slide how stupid killing Logan was - even though we saw how much he is following protocol just 10 minutes before. What happened to "go to the back of the cell" when you give the prisoner something? I will ignore that..I don't mind..

But that Harrison bit? come on. Did the writers think they were clever? because it certinally looked like that when they read the letter out loud
Did they think it was poetic that by killing Dexter they make Harrison free?

It's also kind of annoying that they brought back Bautista for some glorified cameos. I was really hoping there was gonna be more to that than what we got.

Yeah I really wondered how a scene of him meeting Dexter would be like...but it never happened

Also what was the point of the old rich guy? just being a red herring for like..3 episodes?
Again - I can let that slide. I can let a lot of things slide. I don't need a perfect show. :|

IMDB scores of previous episodes dropped a little (like E9 dropped from 9.7 to 9.6)

People shouldn't do that. Don't downvote episodes because the finale sucked. Downvote the finale so it shows how much it sucks compared to the rest of the show

Man, that was established way earlier. It was established all the way back in S2 with Doakes!

It wasn't earned at all. They teased us with an amazing ending everyone wanted only for that. We were so jerked around. Batista was gonna come and have a final confrontation with Dexter, and Dexter was going to go to jail and pay for his crimes. I didn't even mind Dexter dying it was just the execution was so poor. If he was going to die either way, why have him run so hard from the electric chair? Why tease that ending if you're just going to do something dumb to end it. And don't even tell me it subverted expectations because everyone knew Dexter was either going to get killed or get caught. The entire season of this show was good up till Dexter kills Logan and then it goes off the rails hard. How could they mess up the ending at the final stretch yet again. He agonized for three episodes about whether or not to kill Doakes before deciding not to. We didn't even get an inner monologue about how sad he was. And what was with Angela just telling Harrison to run at the end and giving him twenty bucks?

You know what is sad? if you read a summary without watching the show, some things sounds very stupid, but they actually make sense if you watch the show and they are not as bad as it looks just from reading about it
But if you read the summary of the finale, some things still sound very stupid, but they are even worse if you did watch the show, because you know how out of character it was for both of them and how everything that led to this is contradictory with what would actually supposed to happen

i know next to nothing about dexter but i disagree with this. if the finale of a serial show sucks, this can make the episodes leading up to the finale worse in retrospect. for example, in loki, i like all of the episodes where sophie played a major role less now because i now know the way the loki/sophie romance was executed in the finale was dogshit.
