Pretty much

The ending was great. Not sure what this reaction is. I think mostly Dexter fans have trouble with endings that aren't happy. I think if Harrison had went with Dexter and the show ended there, with them escaping to another town, the internet would be like "BEST ENDING EVA", even if it misses the mark on the entire theme of the show.

This was a combination of the correct ending of both season 6 and 8 with having Harrison instead of Deb making it a lot more powerful.

2nd watch was better but the last ~20 minutes were garbage for the simple fact that Dexter was a dumbass for killing Logan. Like who wrote this shit??

I feel like the showrunner just now realized Dexter wouldnt be a good dude IRL and thought it was the most mind-blowing thing ever but most people who watched the pilot back in 2007 or whatever already knew that.

The issue is that it isn't actual good evidence. In the real world, if Angela and Batista go to a DA with a file, and go "we think you should reopen and re-try this case" he is gonna ask what new evidence they have.

All they have is "this dead drug dealer has a mark on his neck. This drug dealer has a mark on his neck. The Bay harbor butcher left marks on their necks. Also, ketamine in their systems." (Well ignore that it was M99 in the original, just another example of the writers living in lala land, I guess.)

That's it. And that's certainly fine evidence, but it isn't enough. No DA in the world would open that case again on such circumstantial evidence. Just wouldn't ever happen, so Dexter was never in any kind of danger of being found out. Thats why killing Logan was nonsensical.

The threat of being confronted by Angel, having to answer for his disappearance, new questions over BHB, possibly being tied up in the legal system for years, being the subject of sustained scrutiny by the media and public probably wasn't a prospect that thrilled Dexter.

So the solution is to break everything weve ever known about his character i.e. The Code and brutally murder an obviously innocent and great man? Why didnt he pretend Kurt was still alive and implore Logan to go give Angela backup? You dont think the dozens of bodies there obviously linked to Kurt would have caught their attention more than some dude who faked his identity?

I mean, shit, if they had linked Logan to Kurts nefarious side as some fans were theorizing it would have made at least some sense but they never did that.

Even outside of that Iunno where this idea in media that characters need to be rigid, consistent, and perfectly logical comes from. It's not like people irl are consistent or logical lol.

Dexter has thrown out The Code multiple times throughout the series. Not to mention, this doesn't even really break the code. "Don't get caught," is rule #1, above all else.

Idk. We've seen multiple times that when Dexter is backed into a corner he shows his real self.

The issue with season's 8 ending was not that Dexter was a lumberjack, just that the whole season's narrative was all over the place, with the writers seemingly drawing from a hat for each episode. It just didn't lead naturally there.

This season was well constructed, everything leading naturally to the end conclusion. It's not like Angela stumbled upon all the evidence during the finale. It's been building up since a few episodes in.

I'm getting the feeling that the people who hated this finale are the cringy edgelords who wanted to be Dexter 15 years ago and this post really strengthens that view.

the whole reason he told Angela about Kurts secret lair was so he could get Logan alone and steal his keys. He wasnt planning on killing him until he tried to pull his gun.

although idk why he didnt just lie to Harrison and say he only knocked him out

I cant tell if this finale apologia is genuine or some people are so ecstatic they got a better ending than season 8 that theyll defend it to the death.

The weirdest defense being, the show had rushed, contrived, and inconsistent writing before so its fine. Truly bizarre.

Forreal. It wasn't as bad as season 8 for me, but it wasn't the perfect ending by any means... I don't even mind how it ended. How it got there made little sense to me tho

Are people forgetting that multiple people suspected him of being the Bay Harbor Butcher before dying mysterious deaths? That Doakes had strong and solid alibis for many of the murders, and that there was serious set of evidence that LaGuerta was compiling?

Like, the noose tightened when Angela let it be known that she contacted Angel. There was just no way at that point that he was going to talk his way out of it. Which is why he tried to steal Logan's keys and escape.

Particularly psychopaths, lmao. See any mobster. They're infamous for claiming to have "codes" but then routinely breaking them for their convenience.

Off the top of my head Dexter has killed at least 3 people that didn't fit the code. One he was bluntly wrong about, the other two were fits of rage against assholes who he had no proof of (nor did he care) about them being killers.

He was about to kill Laguerta. He considered killing Doakes. Killing Logan when cornered wasn't out of character. Dexter is a psycho and a hypocrite and some people can't deal with that. He was never a hero, that was his mask, that is literally the point of the code.

yeah he killed an innocent guy in season 4, then the first episode of season 5 he straight up murdered some random dude in a bathroom because he was rude to Dexter

Exactly. People love Dexter but forget that he really was a monster. People didnt want to see him die but honestly it was what he deserved.

1) he deserved to die, yeah
2) the code is a mask, true
3) it was still not a great decision to kill logan

I thought it was a good ending.

My only complaint was that it ended. I would have liked a second season.

People saying it's as bad as the last season of the original show are mad.
