I am obviously not a hockey fan, but I was wondering: Is it legal for the puck to leave the ice? Does a goal count if the puck leaves the ice anywhere along its path? What if the puck is in the air when it enters the goal?

The answer to all three of those is yes. If a puck is unintentionally put out of play, it restarts with a faceoff in the area closest to where it left the ice. If it is deemed that a player, while on their side of the ice, purposefully puts the puck out of play, it is a penalty for delay of game.

Hockey uses neither pucks nor ice.

This isnt correct. You can do a lacrosse style goal by picking the puck up with your stick as long as your stick stays below your shoulders and the stick is below the crossbar when it scores.

This topic was covered previously. Yes, it can leave the ice at any point with no penalty as long as a player doesn't pick it up with their hand or kick it. It is not supposed to leave the rink however

I don't know hockey, but I saw that video where Clint Malarchuk got his carotid severed and he started spraying blood all over the ice. His only thought was to get off the ice because he knew his mom was watching from home and he just didn't want his mom to see him die on TV. He got off the ice and the first thing he said was for them to call his mother -- then he told them to call a priest. He was saved because the coach was an army medic and pinched the artery shut.
