National elections for Riksdagen, Regional assemblies and Municipal assemblies are held on the second Sunday in September every 4 years. The upcoming election is thus on September 11th 2022.

These two pics show an aggregate of the past months different polls.

The first pic show how support has changed for the parties compared to the 2018 election result while the second is current party support.

M: Conservatives
L: Liberals
C: Neoliberals
KD: Christian Democrats
(these 4 are our traditional Right-wing parties)

S: Socialdemocrats
V: Far-Left
MP: Green party
(these 3 are our traditional Left-wing parties)

SD: Nationalists (entered Riksdagen in 2010)

As you can see, the traditional Right is on a negative trend. These 4 governed the country 2006-2014 and managed to get a majority together then. That is far from the case now. Different shades of Liberalism in particular is not an election winner now. The Conservatives have very Neoliberal economic policies so the loss of support for them can be guessed to be because of that as well.

Meanwhile, support for the 2 parties with ties to Socialism has grown quite a bit.

The Nationalist party Sverigedemokraterna (SD) also keep growing and is now second largest party as you can see in the second pic. They are anti-immigrant, anti-LGBT, anti-abortion but they support traditional Left-wing policies on welfare issues like healthcare, pensions and social safety nets.

The Green party and the Liberals would be kicked out of Riksdagen based on this since you need 4% to hold seats.

I think I'm just more cynical than you, given the current trajectory of S politics. Did you see the awful dick measuring contest between some S minister and an SD (or was it M?) spokesperson on Twitter? The one where they bragged about how many asylum seekers they had/wanted to throw out.

Im prob voting V despite not liking their immigration policies and some other things.

Last time I voted V for the first time, other times its been S but S has dissappointed me, and I need to see how they do the new period before voting for them again.

Well, I did write currently ;)
I have not, but it does not surprise me considering the state of things as you wrote. Was it Morgan Johansson?

V is a solid choice regarding welfare issues, housing and the like. Issues you seem to align with them on based on what I have seen :)

Why are nationalists on the rise? Is it the boomers last stand, like the MAGA wave here in the US? Or is it brainwashed young people?

They're quite successful at controlling public debate and framing everything as an immigration issue. And almost the entire right wing is now supporting that narrative, since the alternative would be to question the policies that they want and like.

Thanks for the link. And yes, Johan Forssell is their spokesperson on rttspolitik. This tough climate on immigration will most likely only get harsher since polling show that the average Swede now want Left-wing policies on welfare issues but strong anti-immigration policies and hard on crime.

Regarding who vote for them: they are the biggest party amongst men and in particular men who are 50+. Their strongest areas are in the two southernmost regions Skne and Blekinge.

Thanks, yep! Although I'm not done with my doctorate, I can finish it remotely. And we've been dating for almost three years now so it's really time to move in imo.

As long as it feels okay it is all good though. No inherent need to rush. Has the apartment sale been a big reason for the delay?

No, not really. The delay has happened for a lot of reasons. COVID, complications in the research, my own executive dysfunction, etc. But the apartment sale isn't helping :)

I see. Hopefully it will flow better in the Spring.

Does she have a big apartment or do you plan to get a new place together? :)

considering that S is now essentially using politics that SD suggested like 5-10 years ago, one would think so, but no

Her apartment is quite big, but a two roomer still, and a newly renovated rental at that. So long term were looking to move into something with more rooms and less rent, but we're not in a hurry.
