WESTFIELD VALLEY FAIRS NEW CONTROLLED PARKING PLAN

On February 8, 2022, Westfield Valley Fair will be introducing a new controlled parking plan.
Valley Fairs controlled parking plan is being introduced as part of a broader focus on security at the shopping center. We are doing our utmost to ensure safe, easy, and convenient access for our customers.

In addition, the new controlled parking plan is designed to limit the parking inconveniences experienced by Valley Fair customers as a result of the substantial number of vehicles left onsite each day by individuals heading off to work elsewhere in the Silicon Valley community.

The plan keeps the first two hours of parking at Valley Fair free of charge, with company research showing that this will accommodate nearly 80% of existing customer visits.

Fees: 0-2 hours FREE; 2-3 hours $1; 3-4 hours $2; 4-5 hours $3; 5-6 hours $4; 6-7 hours $5; 7-8 hours $6; 8-9 hours $7; 9-10 hours $8; 10-11 hours $9; 12+ hours a maximum daily rate of $10.
Lost ticket rate is daily maximum. No refunds.

Patrons of Valley Fairs ShowPlace ICON Theatre will be able to receive validations for four hours of free parking, with the first $1-per-hour charge only coming into effect upon expiration of the extended validation.

As part of the new controlled parking plan, our Valley Fair retail partners will be able to purchase preferred parking passes at a rate of $40 a month, or $3 a day, for designated employee parking spots in the subterranean Stevens Creek garage or at any of the shopping centers rooftop levels.

2.5 hours work at minimum wage.

That's some bullshit

But depending on where you live vs where you work in the area, public transportation can cost as much if not more. VTA monthly is $90

Of course that doesn't involve gas/insurance/maintenance/monthly financing, but that gets offset by time, which can be the difference between getting a second job or not.

If not purchased by the employer, individual employees may purchase the passes themselves.

If Im reading this right, the mall itself is not providing free parking, but most likely the vast majority of the employers inside the mall would buy parking validation and therefore their actual employees would indeed have free parking.

That being said, there could obviously be some crappy employers that dont purchase validation, but I would guess that they would be relatively few..

Also, this set up is actually not that uncommon, although it probably is for a mall. Its actually the set up that lots of buildings in a large downtown area would have. I knew a guy that worked in downtown Dallas and had to pay for his own parking to go to work. I agree that its BS

Is that confirmed min. wage in the area? Because where I am $40 is more like 6 hours work at min. wage.

Yeah I worked at a YMCA in a downtown mall, thankfully it was just a 10-minute bus ride for me but everyone else paid exorbitant fees to put their car in the parking garage.

The homes around the area are mostly poor area / low income. I would not feel safe living close by, although if you live a few miles to the west you'll see more upper-middle class apartments / houses, but those people aren't working at the mall.

It's a pretty decent sized mall. Has two floors. But it's extremely popular for the wealthy due to shops like LV, Gucci, Coach, Rolex. Basically, if you're looking to buy named brand stuff, you come to this mall. Most the people I see working there are in their early '20s and likely college students, though the majority of shops are brands anyone can buy, like Banana Republic, Express, Forever 21, etc., plus the food court. @Shablagoo

If you come to this mall during the week it's fairly empty. Now that all the shops are open late and the theater is back open, it does get packed during the weekends. People do leave their cars there for several days, but with how many cops I see driving around any time I go there, I don't see why they can't just give them tickets.

They are charging employees for parking.

The employees should be storming the office and demanding the bosses reverse this bullshit and demanding several improvements in benifits, pay and working conditions. If not they burn down the mall(after hours)

When the police are called they have a moral obligation to come and write the mall management a ticket for being total ****s and leave without doing shit. Of course cop's are fucking trash so they wouldn't.

Fuck this boot licking shit. Workers fucking their bosses businesses shit up big time when abused needs to become the norm.

Thank you for the info.

I was hoping that those types of stores would at least pay decent wages but just a quick Google search shows me workers make as little as $7/hr at Banana Republic.

This sounds bad, but prepandemic I worked in the city. There is no parking, you were expected to just get to the office. You could pay for a spot in a garage, but it would be at least $250 a month. Unlimited subway pass was $90 a month, or $4.50 a day round trip. It seemed normal at the time, but now we just work from home permanently.

It all depends on the mall scenario, if it's like Jersey where it's wide open parking I don't think anyone should pay for parking. However, if it's one of the enclosed garages that needs employees and constant upkeep then I can understand the situation. However, I think they should provide the employees with parking tags. I used to work in Philadelphia and parking was $300 a month. Granted $300 a month wasn't much to me, I can understand why other employees would be upset.
