I want to love it because it's such a time capsule of a game.

Amazing graphics for a Mega Man game. This actually betrays the underlying 8 bit feel that's inherent of Mega Man, but Capcom didn't KNOW that yet and was experimenting with how to progress with the series. Some of the enemy animations are really impressive using this technology, and all of the robot masters have a pretty cool design.

The full anime cut scenes are also a reminder of things the PSX would do to show off a CD drive over console gaming. The awful voice acting only calls back to this age of the original Resident Evil. Metal Gear Solid hadn't introduced competent voice acting yet.

The level design seems weak though. Multiple levels are total gimmicks with obligated vehicles and minimal real platforming. I guess Megaman X did this too, but it feels abundant here.

Haven't beaten it yet. I have one final robot master left to defeat IIRC. Curious if Wily's Castle will be memorable and well designed. I'm currently playing some maze level with disappearing platforms I'm not a huge fan of.

I like it more than 7 and 1, but I rarely replay it like I do 2-6, 9 and 10.

I almost don't count 1 because I do feel it's the most boring one, but it feels wrong to count it as the worst one given that it was historic.

The graphics were too X-like in that one, I couldn't get into it. I beat it once to say I've done it and then I never played it again.

Is that the one I gameshark'd in extra Bolts?

8 is easily the worst, especially with how much softer the tone is compared to 7.

I may have only played it once, roughly ten years ago, but I vividly remember that shit.

MM8 looks purty graphics wise for sure, but the gameplay---yeah, I can even play MM7 multiple times over 8.

Out of all the classic NES style mega menz I honestly never cared for MM5 at all. MM5 is the very first one where as I kid I thought they were really running out of ideas for robot masters, and I didn't care for the games music like that...music being a big part of why I like MM games like that. To be fair MM6 wasn't that much better than MM5 when it comes to the robot masters, but MM6 did have some good music at least.

I actually enjoyed the newest mega man game, 11. Thought the double gear mechanic was pretty cool, and I really liked bomb man's stage with all the explosions, lol. Also handsome wily:

8 is definitely my least favorite. It has some good moments, but overall its fundamentals are poor.
And I really like 7.

Of the MMs I'd say yes. For years Brentalfloss mindlessly had people dumping on 7 which is actually a pretty cool game but at long last they're seeing the light.

I haven't played 11 and I kind of don't want to. It just looks off. Lots of little things make me question it, no Inafune (his heinous doings aside), only one fortress theme, no sprites makes it harder to gauge what you can stand on and when you'll fall off, voice acting I don't think it needs, apparently still no big clues about how it leads into the X series which is all I really want of classic series games at this point.

I remember liking it well enough, but found the voices to be really grating.

7 & 8 are the weakest of the main series, yeah

11 is pretty good. Not as good as 9 & 10, but it's not bad either.

I honestly prefer X3, myself.

i think so. others like 6 and 7 have have flaws, but 8 is a combination of bad levels, bad bosses and bad music

X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, MM2, MM3, MM 11 are amazing,

rest em are either good or outright bad like X7 and X6, MM8, MM7

I will never for the life of me understand why people think MM7 is bad. It's super creative, well designed, and has great visuals that don't compromise the feel of the series like 8 does.

I love me some snes MMX, but my favorite snes MM was always X3 for the playable zero first showing up.

My favorite MMX game in general is X4, because of zero's first fully playable appearance and a pretty nice z-saber moveset.

I agree with music being a big part of what makes these games good, and that 5 doesnt have one of the better soundtracks. But I think it has some of the most interesting level design and its fun to breeze through the levels. Also Dark Man is possibly my favorite song in the whole series.

Out of 2-6, 4 is the one that I think is relatively bland. I have a hard time recalling most of the songs despite playing it dozens of times. Levels are long in a more sloggy way.

Rockman & Forte/MegaMan & Bass is considered the worst of the original series followed by 8. The graphics are nice but both games are a mess. Level design, items, and weapons are the biggest offenders. Then of course we have 8's English voice acting.

4, 7, and 9 are arguably the top 3 (not necessarily in that order).

2 is somewhere in the middle. It's a very flawed game and is often looked back on for nostalgia.

While also flawed, 3 is my personal favorite.

Wow, the first Wily stage is a "JUMP JUMP" level. I'm not sure I'm going to beat this one. I just realized I'm a 38 year old man playing God damn Mega Man and it's not good that the game has made me start evaluating it that way.

I found the Wily skateboard segment easier than the FrostMan one. >_>

Did you buy any of the buster upgrades?

Yeah, I bought the arrow shot and the beam. Those were the only things being sold that seemed worth it.

Are there even any worthwhile upgrades in this game? Rush is weird in this, and it's annoying that I have no clue what any of his icons actually do until I use them.

I usually just buy the Arrow Shot.

Yeah Rush is just another big flaw with the game. Rush Health is a poor excuse for e-tanks. Rush Charger replaces Eddie. Rush Cycle is a neat idea, but there really isn't a good place in the game to use it.and finally Rush Bomber is a poor man's screen clear.

One tip I can give you for Wily 1 is towards the end of the sled section when you're high up use Astro Crush. You'll remain in the air bypassing the jumps and can continue using it until you reach the end.

Yeah I didn't really super care for 4 like that myself. The only songs that really stood out to me from 4 was pharoah man's, dust man's, and skull man's somewhat. I also liked that really catchy final wily stage beat, lol. Levels were kinda long with barely much going on....especially dive man's stage. I did really like gravity man and wave man's stage themes though, especially the remix versions from that ps1 japan release/ones thats on the old gamecube/ps2 mega man collection.

MM3 was always my favorite from the original NES releases, but I think MM10 is pretty much classic MM perfection because of the balanced stages, fun gameplay with all 3 characters/finally proto man gets him a story mode, and mega man getting 3 exclusive weapons to help him stand out more. Also endless mode is really fun.

Why is everybody trashing 11, I just bought it for 13 bucks. Getting hard to find physical in stores now.

I played the crap outta' mega man 11 on release myself. Its like my 3rd favorite in the series after MM3 and MM10. Actually, from what I remember I streamed the game for a friend and beat it the same day I bought it since I liked it so much.

Blast man's stage is the shit.

The second Wily Stage is a Rush Jet level. This game REALLY sucks. It's not even trying to be Megaman.

They were trying to do something new and it didn't work out. I like the robot masters but the gimmicks changed too much imo

I enjoy the challenge, even if certain parts of the game are a bit much. From what I remember of it though, it also feels a bit different from your typical MM game. So I don't blame people for not vibing with it.

Also, the problem with 1 isnt that its boring. Its the absurd fall speed when you dont jump. Almost every Mega Man game has disappearing blocks but Elec Mans stage is extra notorious because screwing up a single time can send you rocketing into a pit.

Also no I frames when you get knocked into spikes. In most other games you get like half a second to jump back to safety.

I'm not sure why "& Bass" gets such hate, either. Again, different feel and no E-Tanks, but it's still pretty solid.

Fuck Dynamo Man

MM8 was my first Mega Man game so I have a soft spot for it. It being a less challenging and having a colorful art style were a bonus for me. The jump jump slide slide are the worst parts lol.

It's still my favorite of the MM 1-10. If I go and play a MM game it's usually either MM8, or one of the MMX games.
