As an artist that has put out a few albums: yes.

There is a certain flow that you want the listener to hear; a story if you will.

There is a lot of deliberation that goes into what song bleeds into the next and how you wish to curate the listener's experience.

Yeah, a lot of care goes into how an album is presented.

Especially if it's a concept album.

I guess it depends but I would say in general, yes. In my favorite albums the songs transition seamlessly from one song to the next and it's so great. I basically never listen to those on shuffle

The Decemberists' "The Crane Wife" album begins with The Crane Wife 3 and The Crane Wife 1 and 2 occur on track 9. They tell a narrative, so you'd think they'd be in order. Idk.
