Give me creative control and a sizable budget and I would give my left pinky finger to make a Spider-Man or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Ask me to make a movie out of Green Lantern or Ben 10 and I'd just as soon work on an original project.

I watched a video the other day on the history of the Blue Beetle. While I appreciated the historic context, the character itself did not appeal to me. I still shared a bit of vicarious anger over how and why he was written off.

Even when the elements of the story are near-interchangeable, what wasn't a part of of my youth was not a part of my youth. And, yes, I know I speak for myself on that. I'm sure there are people in their 20s and 30s who never heard of Dr. Strange before the MCU, but now regard him as one of their favorite superheroes.

It's not like I'm unable to enjoy new things. But it's difficult to feel the same way toward a new character, or a character that's new to me, as I do toward the characters and stories I grew up with. It's a lot more understandable as an adult how so many adaptations wind up being so awful. If it wasn't something you grew up with, or something you took to personally, it's hard to treat it with the respect it deserves.

I still have no forgiveness for the directors of the Super Mario Bros. movie though. Fuck that.

I would love a live-action Ben 10 movie with the budget of an MCU movie.

I've seen exactly two episodes. It looked like a show I would've loved as a child, but it was after my time.
