Shit was GREAT. There's lots of little things that could've been better, but on the whole it was by a huge margin the best non-Bungie Halo campaign. And strangely the first one that had any amount of emotional weight, which worked wonders to make Master Chief more than just a semi-silent protagonist.

Yeah it was great. Best campaign in quite a while. You can tell the game had a bit of development issues which hopefully shouldn't be the case for future campaigns.

Just needed more visual variety and making it less obvious when there's a mission that's just in a big interior. Felt like there were too many.

I hope future missions take notes from the AA guns and the one where you storm the final Banished base. Those were the highlights.

Yeah, you can tell that it ran into some development hell because has the telltale signs of complex ideas that aren't flushed out correctly, particularly the open world design that doesn't mesh very well with the missions. There's a lot to do in the open world, but it's very superficial, which is similar to other open world games, but feels particularly disjointed when the main story is mission based.

I like Master Chief's comically heroic one liners. He is an incredible optimist.

In defense of Chief seeming optimistic:

Scoreboard.

I'm not criticizing, it's just refreshing to play as a "one bullet? It's enough" guy after a lot of other stuff I've been playing.

someone wanna confirm I have this sorta right? (Legendary ending spoilers) The teleporter at the end is some kind of time device that threw chief and co. 3 days into the future, and Atriox 100,000 years into the past? Doesn't that mean the Endless returning was set in stone when Cortana exploded the Halo while Chief was asleep? Since he would've been sent back then >_> What was the point of stopping the Harbinger from repairing that facility if it was already done. idgi.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who interpreted it that way. But I looked up some info about it later and found that no, Atriox didn't actually travel into the past. The reveal is simply that he was alive and found the Endless in the present. Apparently the 97,000 BC timestamp was specifically for the dialogue.

Yeah, I didn't have the timestamp and voiceover when I beat it on Heroic so I think they're two separate things.

Oh you know I thought that whole ending was Legendary only but I guess it's just the voiceover. Lame.

I thought the idea of potentially playable Atriox in the past would have been cool though. Since we did get to see Atriox through the first person perspective, I'd say any scenario where we can actually play as Atriox would be pretty neat.

The timeskip for Chief and Weapon still imply time shenanigans. We also don't know how the Endless are immune to the activation of Halo. So time travel can still be a thing. I think it is something unique to the Endless.

I've always considered it a possibility with the whole Reclaimer stuff in Halo CE.

campaign was fun and i don't even really like halo in general.

one thing they could have done was improve on the map a little.

you're given so many vehicles yet driving them was a pain because of how uneven the terrain was in general and it's obvious they would much rather have you use the grapple gun to navigate around.

The Banshee seemed WAY worse in this one.

In most other campaigns you're given decent vehicle sections. Halo Infinite has the mission The Road and that's really it. Trying to drive the Scorpion around anywhere else is fairly awkward. Banshees and Wasps both have paper thin defenses, and the Banshee's weapons are pretty weak. The Chopper is also pretty disappointing since they changed how its vehicle killer gimmick works. And then the Warthog and Rocket Hog are both overshadowed by a Razorback filled with Marines. And then there's the Wraith. I don't really know what to think of the Wraith since I was only able to drive it for like a minute. And I've still never even managed to get in one in multiplayer.

The Ghost is still pretty good at least. They usually get the Ghost right in each Halo game at least.

The Hornet is fine if there's nobody using shock weapons. Which I lucked out with for one of the bounties. I get that they don't want to overpower the player but yeah some more opportunities to use them properly would be good.

No idea what happened to the Scorpion controls. They're changed and much worse than the originals. I don't even know why it's reversing a lot of the time.

Also this would have been the perfect game to bring back the Falcon.
