The c8 is a better car, but it'll eventually become a 20k used based model corvette.

The C7 ZR1 will always retain it's value because it's a collectors car. Now, in a few years when the ZR1 C8 comes out, that thing will be an absolute monster.

It's a more advanced chassis that gives a higher performance baseline. Not saying the FR layout is bad (just look at the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series), but an MR layout offers better balance and rotation. It's an inferior layout for drag racing, where you want a good amount of weight over the front so you don't wheelie at higher horsepower numbers, but as a track car/road car, an MR layout will generally give you a more nimble and fun experience.

Also the fit and finish of the C8 is leaps and bounds better than what the C7 offered. It's a much more enjoyable place to be in.

It's a technological marvel for the time. The engine is cool ass Lotus designed V8 with 16 intake runners. I'm into that kinda shit.

At the end of the day it's just a mid 80's post CARB v8. Sure it may have been advanced for it's time, but these days it's just an uninteresting, inefficient hunk of metal.

Now, if you took a super clean C4 shell and put a modern LS/LT (something like a Texas Speed LS3 or LSX 427), gave it modern coilovers, ignition, and fuel system...maybe with flex fuel so you could run both pump gas, E85, and race gas, i'd be all over that. But at that point you're 50 grand into the project, and there are so many better cars you can get for that money.

The base model C8 is better than the base model C7.

The topic is comparing a $120,000 top tier version of the c7 (before options) to the $60,000 entry level c8.

Early fuel injection with bad intake manifold design, even worse ignition system and engine management (EProms are dead for a reason). Bad piston design, bad head design, there is nothing to like about the engine in (current year). The current interations on that original design are superior in every way while giving the same feel. Hell, you can get modern reproductions of the same exact engine direct from chevy that have all the modern improvements if you want to stay pure to the car.
