Pretty sure mine didn't, but then again it was probably kept on the down-low for obvious reasons.

My high school did, advertised it on posters and in weekly announcements.

Given current environment I would assume parents have shut it down considering it's Kansas but idk for sure

We had a dude everyone knew was gay though he didn't come out till later. People rarely bothered him

Mine did and my guidance counselor was part of it since he was gay.

ours was called "students united by diverse sexualities" but probably has a different name now. That was like 20 years ago

Yup. Early 2000s. I was kinda part of it once, in that i had friends in it and i just helped out with posters and stuff every now and then. Its only an issue now because of conservative ideology trying to tear the LGBTQ community down. Its existed forever and people survived just fine.

Nope, but keep in mind this was back in the 90s. Closest thing was called something like an 'Equality Club' maybe, but it was basically just a feminist thing.

Not explicitly. We had something called the S.U.N. club that was basically just a general anti-bullying thing that became the de facto LGBT club for some reason.

We had some diversity thing in high school that I got elected to run for a year. That got me out of a lot of classes to set the meetings up. They made every single student in the school go to it. Sounds like it was the same thing.

My kids school has kids carrying around bags that say LGB Alliance. Im guessing thats the same thing too

Yes. I was in college and grad school 2003-2011.

Yes, but I along with many other nonhetero students did not bother to join the groups. We were already out and comfortable in our own cliques.

One infamous campus sponsored diversity "club" at my high school kept losing legit gay/bi members because of an abundance of straight members admittedly passing themselves off as bi for social cred (it basically became a fashion trend). The ratio of members from girls to guys was like 4/1 and it ironically pissed off my lesbian/bi friends because of the casual fakery in the ranks. They did not take kindly to watching their sexual orientation being treated like another accessory for the popular straight girls to exploit for clout.

I joined for a little while and already knew what I was walking into. The teachers hosting the club seemed genuinely supportive, but they were not LGBTQ and kind of spectated our topic conversations like we were zoo animals. There was also some minor issues with them passively applying heteronormative gender "rules" to referee our discussions that clearly favored the feelings of the girls (ie: female members could literally say anything disparaging about boys and men without staff intervention...male members got the hammer dropped on them for even tame implications like "girls do that too"). The guys (who were already dealing with a truckload of typical teenage life issues) did not feel like it was a safe welcoming space where they could be open, so we bounced. My lady friends soon followed as they started feeling the same way thanks to the fakettes hijacking the conversations and the staff facilitating it.

I see value in providing safe groups for LGBTQ youth to feel free and comfortable, but I have also seen dozens of said attempts go awkwardly wrong on campuses (even at university level). It all depends on the rules and who's running the show. And it's really easier for most of us now to just find other mediums to use with dramatically fewer restrictions (something that's practically a cultural tenet to live by for many average guy guys like me). Being in a zone where we could be 100% open about our conversations without rigid censorship was so much more educating and cathartic for finding constructive ways in living with our orientations.

However, if a modern queer kid feels like they have no where else to go...I guess school clubs are worth a shot. Just don't have high expectations.

I was a founding member of our high school's GSA in 2003.

I was part of mine in 2007-2008. They were good people.

Been in two, both were halfassed. Like 5 members so if someone was absent then the meeting was cancelled cause they were the "treasurer" or whatever. Not that we did anything anyways.

My high school just... didn't have bullying. The three most popular kids were a skater/goth/punk guy, a 400+ pound guy with a face like a foot that had the quickest whit and a hilarious snappy comment for any situation, and a black gay guy who kissed everyone as he walked through the hallways.

Maybe it was because there were less than a thousand kids in the school, but there was never any bullying. It was also a very wealthy school, so maybe that had something to do with it?

I went to public school but it was in a wealthy area where the property tax was like $10k+ a year >_> No one really bullyed the few gay guys in our school. Maybe the wealthy areas have less of that bullying nonsense?
