tl:dr: Even though I have connected about 14 devices to my wifi just fine and the only devices that won't connect are the Ego Powerstation devices (original and replacement), Ego support is insisting that the problem is somehow with all 4 different routers I've tried.

The battery powered generator part works great. However, it's supposed to connect to wifi so that it can be monitored and managed remotely. This doesn't work at all. I have a number of devices that connect to wifi just fine. Connecting a device to wifi is not a difficult thing to do. Except for with this device, apparently.

I called their support and they said I need to turn off the 5GHz band and have this device connect while only broadcasting my network on 2.4GHz. Cool. Tried that. No dice. I actually upgraded from an old 802.11ac wifi mesh system to an 802.11ax wifi mesh system while all this was going on and the Ego Powerstation wouldn't connect. They recommended that I get a replacement. Cool, did that. The replacement won't connect, either.

They said to try connecting to a wifi hotspot on my phone. The problem here is that the app you have to use to get the device to connect has to be installed on my phone, and a phone cannot discover itself as a wifi access point. So I had to go to my mom's house in Austin to continue troubleshooting.

I installed the app on her phone, turned on my wifi hotspot, and set it to broadcast only on 2.4GHz. My mom's phone connected to my wifi hotspot just fine. The Ego Powerstation would not.

Ego customer support just called me back today with a canned response of "the problem is with my wifi network." They haven't read any of the emails I sent them explaining the troubleshooting steps we've done.

I'm now wishing I hadn't purchased any Ego lawncare equipment, lol. The only reason I went with the Ego Powerstation is because all of the Ego lawncare tools, battery powered generators, etc. use interchangeable batteries. The battery that I got with my lawnmower works with my hedge trimmer works with my edger. Those batteries also work with the generator.

LOL, it's this thing:

It's for use on the edge of my front lawn to cut grass and weeds that grow out toward the sidewalk.
