SMTV is more like fighting them in the game and then you won't be able to get them until much later cause you're a low level scrub and they're lv 69.

Congratulations enemy boss joined you. Your old party members are now obsolete due to the boss being so much stronger. Who do you wish to kick out of the party?

Vehicles tend to work the opposite in games. Enemies piloting them make them fodder, while you can easily wipe out dozens of enemy vehicles with little effort.

slaughter hundreds of elite heartless decked out in full armour or flying wizards and shit
lose in a cutscene to three of the standard shadows

Tactics is fair as fuck about this though. They're the same if they join you.

but then arent they a weak boss you can solo with your healer

I don't remember any bosses joining you in tactics except Meliadoul? Most of the bosses can't be recruited and have hidden health scores

Scaling. They overinflate numbers for enemies so beating them seems like you did more while also boosting your ego when you hit for 9999 damage. But your numbers for hp and stuff are baseline ones. Your 4000 hp character can hit for 7000 with her spells, if enemies with 4000 hp could hit that hard you'd never make it past the second continent.

Dias Flac from Star Ocean 2. Claude can slaughter enemies by the hundreds, but can't lay a finger on Dias. As soon as Dias joins, he's weaker than half the party.

Most don't join you but anything you can Invite is the same when it fights you as it is when it joins you.

And for example Algus isn't super powerful when he fights you, you could potentially set him up the same way when he is a guest or almost the same.

Dias Flac was so disappointing. I remember starting a new game so I could recruit him, because he was supposed to be a super strong badass...Then you get him and he's awful.

This is why you never join the good guys.

The power of light saps all your powers basically making you start over from scratch.

But, inversely, this is why you take out the good guys ASAP because once they arrive to take out the main villain the love and friendship they gained along the way is too OP.
