I got my AA in System Networking and Admin but no one would hire me because I had no work experience in IT. Not even entry level help desk positions would take me so I took this call center tech job to give me the tech experience I needed.

The job sucked ass, I got yelled at and there are a ton of dumb people in this world. Reflecting back, though, most people just wanted their shit working. The job has humbled me and re-taught me what it is to have soft skills.

They paid 8 dollars an hour while training you for 3 weeks and then bumped you to 9 when you start taking calls. Not to sound like a braggart but I quickly rose up the ranks within months. They put me as floor walker and wanted me to start taking supervisor calls.

After a year I got in touch with a recruiter and they got me my first Help Desk position elsewhere. Ama about this.

Nice. I also got my start in IT doing tech support. I wish I had an actual career plan at the time, though, instead of doing tech support for 5 and a half years.

I applaud anyone who can work with the public without strangling someone

Yeah I had my degree and at the time I wanted to be a Network Admin. I definitely did not want to be in Tech Support any longer than I had to.

In this particular job, you know people are only calling you because they are having issues with their services and they only want it fixed. You just gotta calm them down and own the issue and reassure them you're the person who cares and is gonna help them get their shit working.

I worked at Borders Book Store before I became a high school English teacher.

Id just yell at them till I got fired. I can't do it. I've worked alone most of my life for that reason lol

It really sucked for me because I had to start at the bottom. I hear stories about people getting their degree with no experience, no interning and still got that 60K job IT position.

Yeah, that's for sure. I actually liked Borders though, one of my favorite jobs.

Yes, U-Verse charges out the fucking ass for their services. Always negotiate for the best deals and threaten to cancel if they don't wanna give you one.
