I've never played Red Dead Redemption 1, but I do have my PS3 set up and I have the game on disc. I could do a playthrough topic and let you know my thoughts on the game.

I wouldn't be going in completely blind, I know how the game ends, but everything else is a total enigma to me.

Hey, I'm useful ITT. I 100%'d the game for the first time a week or two ago, been doing a little of Undead Nightmare. I haven't played RDR2, so I can't compare it, but the game was pretty good. The story's a bit all over the place, but I liked it overall.

My biggest complaint is that it has that R* quality to it where they do obnoxious things for the sake of realism. Virtually every mission in the game - certainly every one in the second half - can only be started at certain times of day which often means you have to go save two or three times to actually access it. You fast travel from your camp which can't be set down near roads, towns, or gang hideouts which is a constant needling annoyance when you're doing things that require you to travel all over the map. Most of the minigames are annoying and, being R*, you have to do most of them to progress in the story.

There's also one bit near the end of the game that I just didn't like. I see what they were doing with the ranch quests and what purpose they serve in the story, but they just kind of killed all momentum and were 90% just riding around West Elizabeth and New Austin. The mission where you wrangle horses was by far the most tedious fucking thing in the game because you have to do the horse breaking minigame about four times, each time lasting about a minute longer than it should have.

It's still good and very much worth playing, even though RDR2 outclasses it in basically every way

It's definitely aged. It has this weird *almost there* quality that somehow bothers me, unlike titles on ps2 and Gamecube which obviously look worse. Or maybe it simply looked a lot worse than what I remembered in my head, when this was my favorite video game period.

I also feel the writing and mission design wasn't as good as I remembered.

No. Redemption was always mediocre. Its a miracle that 2 is a masterpiece.
