I guess I need to give more details here. There are people that, by default, are happy and cheerful. Always smiling. Based on my experience, every time these people have a kid they default to looking miserable. Im not saying they are. Im sure there are some great moments for them with their children.

However, their facial expressions always look bland. Like they are going through the motions of life. I know my facial expression looks like that but Ive always been like that. I dont have kids either. Some people are just like that. Its the people that are always cheerful that change Thats what I notice.

If that happens to people like that I cant imagine what having a kid would do to someone like me

They're just tired of everything. The neat thing is that you don't need to have kids to look like that. Kids are just very great at mentally breaking their parents.

I feel like this topic is going to make people mad (because people take it so weirdly personally that some people may not want kids) but, yes, Ive definitely noticed that too lol.

I honestly expected this topic to somehow be controversial so I tried to make it as fair as possible. So far its surprisingly quiet

From what Ive seen at work the only guys to get those truly drained facial features are dads. Regardless of how hard they go at work.

That's the transition of knowing that you don't matter anymore because the kids mean everything now.

Yea I can see that. When does that go away though? I know someone who has a 5 year old now. They havent reverted back to how they use to be before the kid. Does this not go away until their kid is a teen or even out the house? Does it ever go away?

It makes me sick when I see all these people who have kids without making sure they'll be able to provide for the child and themselves.

Theres no guide to being parents. Well figure it out along the way. As long as the child is loved then it will all work out.

fast forward:
Parents: Well we tried our best. When they have a kid of their own theyll understand its not easy

Well that's cuz we definitely are going through the motions of life... every day. Especially when the kids are young. It's just the same routine/schedule every single day. On top of that, we are sleep deprived.

I wouldn't know when it stops because my kids are still super young. But I imagine it never ends.

This is true for me. I have a two year old and I just feel constantly drained. Yet I will never regret it, and I think almost all parents feel the same way.

I was gonna say, if you're looking at the parents of infants and wondering why they look sleep deprived, it's because of all the sleep deprivation.

Well theres a difference between not wanting kids and saying that parents are fundamentally miserable

Yea kids are tiring, but for a lot of people its worth it. Personally i have been way way happier since my son was born.

Kinda like going to the gym. Its work, but its rewarding.
