I'm just saying because some people do go into a vasectomy like "oh well it can be reversed if I ever do want kids."

Enjoy your valium.

My good friend had the procedure done and it was botched. One of his testicles basically swelled up to the size of "an Outback baked potato" as he says. Had to have it removed.

Wish I'd seen this topic a little earlier, but better late than never.

I had my vasectomy a little over two and a half years ago at the age of 32. My reason was/is that I am very sure I don't want children. Obviously I spent a lot of time researching and thinking about it beforehand.

During the operation I felt nervous, because I felt very vulnerable at that point, though I took solace in the fact that the procedure is relatively simple. A close friend drove me home afterward.
The first few days were quite uncomfortable due to the sore feeling and the fact I had to take it very easy. Especially keeping it clean and getting (un)dressed was a chore.
After the first two or three days it gradually gets easier. The sore feeling will fade and you should still take it easy as the sack will still be healing, but it won't be as fragile as during the first few days.
After about two weeks it should be healed, and after three months you'll need to have a jizz sample analyzed to make sure you're infertile.

The most important thing is to take it easy, especially during the first two or three days. Walk as little as possible, move slowly and just stay put. You really don't want those stitches to tear. If they do, get them (professionally) restitched ASAP.

don't know about vasectomies but I had surgery about 2 months ago, and they are very adamant about you following the rules after surgery. No heavy lifting for up to 6 weeks and after that you have slowly build up the weight. No baths while the wound is still open, and for gods sake make sure you keep the wound clean.

I was lucky to have help from my mother (my stitches were on my waist). Just clean with water the first few days, pat dry, clean with saline and polysporin, bandaging the wound the first couple days before letting it breath after that. I had to invest in a fungal cream as the sides of the wound didn't clean properly. But 3 months later and I'm as good as can be.

Also, buy a luffa. It's extremely soft and won't disturb the scar as much.

Yeah, if it wasn't made super clear by your doctor, if you don't want kids don't have unprotected sex until that time has passed and it's been analyzed.

As to the topic....not pain but just generally sore for about 36 hours, then felt fine.

I have a question because I probably gonna get it done sometime this year.

Did you guys ask your primary care physician about it and then go from there or did you just call up a urologist in your network and start there? Like idk where to even get started.

Either route will work. I called a urologist, but they recommended me to a general practitioner's office to get it done. If you want it soon you should try booking soon. A lot of guys book them for late February and early March.

So are the right wingers the only people having children now? How will that work out in the next few decades?

Anyway, I had my vasectomy a few years ago and It was mostly ok... It took a while before I could have sex again. To be honest, I thought my Wife would be more willing to put out more, but that didn't happen.

It really wasn't that bad. Doesn't hurt in the moment at all other than the numbing needle. Then a little tender for a few days. I didn't take anything other than Advil. Just laid on the couch with an icepack and the TV.

Where I live it's mandatory to be referred by your own general practicioner. The GP talked with me about it for a while to make sure I was well-informed and had thoroughly contemplated this decision in a sane state of mind. He referred me to a urologist, with whom I had a similar conversation (albeit a bit shorter, probably because he knew my GP had this talk with me as well), after which a date for the procedure was planned.

On either the evening or morning before the procedure takes place, you'll have to thoroughly shave your scrotum. You should also arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure and be prepared to be barely-mobile for at least two days (even if you feel like you have the energy to do stuff) as your junk will feel quite sore, and the skin needs to heal and will be especially fragile during that time.
Afterwards, it gets easier and you'll gradually be able to do stuff again, but remember take it easy for about two weeks.

Talib_21 posted...

They let you hold on to your phone? But yeah, I remember that was pretty much the most physically vulnerable I've ever felt. I tried to relax, though the urologist urged me to calm down as I was too tense. After a little while, they slightly tilted the operating table, in order to get more blood flowing to my head which calmed me down. That combined with the anesthetic actually got me pretty high.

No, but considering it after two kids.

There's this small part of me that isn't sure about it though.

Right now, I've got two lads and I don't want any more whatsoever, but when they're grown, independent and off on their own? I don't wanna look back on that choice and regret it. Been thinking I'll make a decision on it by NYD.

Since it's considered an office procedure, with no operating theater or anesthesia needed, it's pretty cheap if you have insurance. I have a HMO plan and they just charged a specialist co-pay, which was $50 I think.

In my case, it was pretty simple and took less than an hour. A numbing agent and scalpel is definitely the cheap way, although I've heard of people wanting to go the surgical route. The urologist was kind of cool, actually. He was this young Jewish guy who just had "guy talk" with me the whole time, almost like I was in a barber shop. He said most men either want to talk like crazy to keep their mind off of what was happening, or they close their eyes and zone out, sometimes with headphones on.

Ya same here, it took longer for them to shave my balls and take my vitals and everything. I think the actual procedure took about 20 minutes and we just talked about KU basketball the whole time. Once I got in the room and the nurse calmed me down I was fine. Before that I was being the biggest baby ever lol
