Start of ALttP:

You hear that Zelda has been captured. You grab your lantern and you check out Hyrule Castle yourself, only to find your uncle being injured. He gives you your sword, and you immediately sneak into Hyrule Castle and traverse it to find and rescue Zelda. You then fight your way underneath the castle and escort Zelda to the Sanctuary. You are then free to explore Hyrule and are expected to figure out on your own on where to go and how to get the 3 pendants and get the master sword to fight the wizard and free Zelda.

A masterpiece. You have brilliant action sequence where you rescue Zelda and then the game immediately opens up and lets you explore at your leisure.

Start of Ocarina of Time:

HEY HEY LISTEN LINK! HEY HEY! an obnoxious fairy that constantly telling you what to do and is holding your hand the whole way through the game and won't let you deviate the path without reminding you on what you need to do and how to play the game. Gotta sit through tons of exposition cutscenes and waiting and tutorials and....I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE GAME...

and don't even get me started with Skyward Sword...

You know, I think you're right.

You're gonna have an amazing time whether you sit down with ALttP or OoT, but ALttP is just so damn good.

I think Navi was a necessary evil to make make sure players could understand the game.

There's a alot of things we take for granted in 3d games that was well established in Mario 64/ Zelda OoT

People overblow Navi too much >_> She only chirps a lot during the 1st few minutes of the Deku Tree. Otherwise she only chirps once every half hour I think.

Navi is good at explaining the 3d elements of the game, but there is unnecessary annoying things such as remending you every 15 minutes about your current "objective". (i.e. "Let's go to the Dodongo's Cavern by using a bomb flower!")

Yeah, that part I understand. It doesn't help on N64 text scrolling speed.

Link to the Past is the best Zelda game, and a Top 5 SNES game. So yes, I agree.

Ocarina of Time was good though -- but its replayability is nothning compared to LttP. I could play LttP twice a year even in 2021 and still have fun. It's just that good and a great length of game.

I remember having a great time exploring the world in Link to the Past. Even though the graphics in Ocarina are better, the over-world felt empty by comparison. Even in the human village, it seems like there's less to uncover by exploring.

as for this, I do consider it the best 2D one, but tbh it being short is part of why. Nothing ever really overstays its welcome

I think Ocarina of Time has the best tone of any Legend of Zelda game that I've played, but A Link to the Past is great fun. I did a play-through for December. There are a few reminders that it is an early SNES game, but it's still great fun overall.

If there's one thing I have to nitpick, it's that nothing else in the game is as quite as fun as pushing soldiers off of a ledge in the first dungeon. The Wile E. Coyote physics when they realize here's nothing supporting them, the twinkle when they fall to their doom, it's so satisfying.

Ocarina is fun for nostalgia, speed runs, and just glitching and hopping around.
Some dungeons are still fun.
Last I did with it.was discuss with my bro what we would do if we were Link at the start, with various rules.

LttP is one of, if not my favorite game.

Oh yeah, night in Hyrule field's tone, night with Malon in front of the castle, various temples (Forest, Shadow).
The happiness of Castle Town, followed by its later emptiness...

I did a recent play-through of A Link to the Past, not Ocarina of Time.

I should revisit Ocarina of Time in the near future though.

Can we at least agree that Ganon in LTTP is the biggest jobber in the series?

He has the complete Triforce and his mind is still sane, yet he still manages to lose.

He's also the hardest Ganon boss fight I've come across. Ocarina of Time and original Legend of Zelda were pushovers. A Link to the Past required considerably more effort.

I will admit that I have one nitpick about his story portrayal in that game though: It's revealed that Ganon is Agahnim after you've defeated Agahnim for a second time. By the time you meet Ganon, you're already 2 and 0 against him in conflicts from a story standpoint. I think it was a twist that the programmers came up with late into development after realizing that Ganon ultimately had not been a part of the plot, but I still think it's a bit of a mistake to say, "Oh, that guy who put down twice? Yeah, that was Ganon himself."
