Basic capitalism that should be applauded. If you want work done, you should expect to pay an acceptable going rate.

I find it funny that this attitude is so prevalent in my new city and state in general, this place was a flashpoint of workers rights riots and actual small wars due to worker exploitation and they still memorialize those events.

I mean right or wrong, this is true in the corporate world. Those who want to advance will go into the office more, attend cringey mixers, etc.

This is probably true, but most new wfh positions already provide an income to support yourself. Theyre generally not shoved in the same category as what TC is talking about. Lots of folks are happy to just live comfortably and that's fine. Those that want to advance are still free to pursue that even if it's outside the company.

As a recruiter, its been great. Ive never been so desired by companies before. Myself and severs other recruiters I know got new jobs and got 30-50% pay bumps. I get nearly daily messages from companies. Meta hits me up at least once a month but fuck them I will never work for them.

Inadvertently part of it because I just keep doing one-off contract/handyman/[redacted] stuff,

but there a baking job I might get at a privately owned, well, bakery, and that would be really cool.

The higher up, and more important you are in my field(IT) the less you "show up" in person. I have worked remotely since before the pandemic, and everyone I've worked for has worked from home for decades. All of the major infrasturcture guys and developers all work remote at every job I've had.

This comment is for slave mentality jobs where you're at the mercy of judgmental, often racist and delusional gatekeepers.

Hello recruiter scum.

Maybe if you're a tech entrepreneur who has always set their own hours, you see showing up to work as a slave mentality, but the vast majority of workers in places like law firms, accounting firms, advertising, and other white collar jobs need to start at the bottom and work their way up. Working from home can be a reward for an employee whose been there a long time and proven themselves. If you're just starting out and demanding to work from home, it shows laziness and self absorption.

converting to full time wfh was quite convenient in that it overlapped with all my bosses stepping down, and the total number of hours per week my employer charges the government on our contracts rose to 70

i'm efficient so i don't work 70h/w, but i regularly work 50-60.

the latest raise was 6% with a 10% bonus, so i guess i'm probably supposed to start looking for other jobs myself

As I said, delusional, often racist gatekeepers. I've dated a few lawyers, their work life was usually awful unless they left for a government/court job with regular 9 to 5 hours, no resistance to remote work if they were sick or in the case of the pandemic and little if any poor treatment by a crazy racist moron boss.

I used to actually let my ex's boss choose between giving her a raise or getting his ass beat, and he saw himself as a victim despite everyone in his life personal and professional besides his wife and son hating him deeply.
