You start off in a vault because a nuke destroyed society and you venture out of the safety of the vault to find your destiny in this desolute land. You explore the nuked wasteland of Tokyo and helping various people. There is also Ghoul-ish looking people you interact with >_>

But seriously, this game is awesome. I think it's better than SMT1 imo. Plus the soundtrack is amazing for a NES game since it has a custom soundchip

The SNES remake is probably the most accessible way to play it since the gameplay is more streamlined, but the art style is inferior and the music is a huge stepdown from the NES version.

Thoughts, CE? >_>

EXCUSE ME!?!?!? Megami Tensei 2 predates Fallout 1 by 7 years. If anything Fallout is Megami Tensei 2 in the US.

MT1 can be a little rough because it's *just* dungeon crawling with NPCs sprinkled every once in a while. The entire game takes place in 1 giant dungeon with interconnecting zones. I personally like it a lot but it definitely isn't for everyone. And Yumiko is cute. Best girl.

MT2 is more like SMT1 with a story and overworld. I think MT2 isna better game and it's more openworld than SMT1.

The best way to play them is definitely the SNES remake called Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei, which has both games in one with bonuses and more modern QoL changes like an automap and save function instead of a password.

The only downside to the SNES version is that the art is weaker imo, and the music is definitely more subdued and not as good. But otherwise everything else is better in the SNES remake >_>

From what it sounds i might look into the Nes versions. Art style and music goes a long way for these ancient games.

I won't stop you but apparently the NES translations might be a little buggy and there's no automap so either gotta memorize it or make your own map or look it up >_>

MT2 I think has a save system, but MT1 definitely has only passwords and there's onlu 1 cathedral of shadows in the starting area. The SNES version of 1 added a few more throughout the game

Excuse me?!? The Wasteland predates Megami Tensei 2 by two years. If anything, Megami Tensei 2 is The Wasteland in Japan.
