Id rather drink at home alone than go to some sad place with other guys sitting for hours drinking alone.

My local dive has amazing food tbh. I used to go quite frequently for a bite to eat.

Yeah the nearest one to me has among the best burgers in town

Its a comfort place - I was there yesterday saying hi to the salty dog bartender that tells fuck you when you want to order. I hate going to regular bars now.. sure theres girls my age there, but it makes me feel like Im in High School or something when I order a drink

I've been to plenty of dive bars back when I used to go into the city for punk shows all the time.

I'd much rather go to those kinda bars where the drinks are cheap. (or at least cheap by bar standards)

You don't have to understand why. If you want to drink at home alone, do it. If others want to go to a dive bar, that's for them to understand and enjoy.

Drinking alone is fine, but sometimes drinking around other people just feels better. There's music playing which can be a mixed bag, but maybe you'll find something cool - that's how I found the Bennies.

the thing with dives is you have to find the right one. There are some around here that have good food and drinks and are still cheap.

I always assumed it was because they don't live alone and the reason they're drinking is the person that's at home.

Most of the places that I consider to be "dive bars" don't serve food. Or if they do people don't order it often and it's terrible.

I think people are confused by what dive bar means. Just because a place is small doesn't make it a dive bar.

Drinks are cheaper and stronger, the atmosphere can be cozy, you know people there, and they have cool local punk or metal shows.

The sad older people in the bar is part of the charm. It helps remind you that you still have time not to become one of them. And similarly, it's hard to ever feel like you're too cool for the place (or too uncool). Sure I can see the appeal of going to a hip bar, but if you realize you're the unhip one there it kinda sucks. Also, dives are cheaper

A good dive bar has a nice mix of old heads and 30 somethings who hate waiting in line/cover charges. The bar tender is a lifer, but not miserable about it, the cook is a mythical creature rarely seen, but consistently reliable and everyone knows just what to play on the jukebox.

They're laid back and easy to make friends at as long as you aren't a dick

Most of the places I would consider dive bars that serve food just have a deep fryer and a grill behind the bar, no kitchen

The ones Ive been to have been unsanitary and the bartenders couldnt make a good mixed drink to save their life. My only decent option was some typical draft bottled beers.

This is how you know its an excellent** dive (as opposed to just a good dive)

I never went to a lot but it was fun going with a few people from work once in a while. Dive bars are fairly chill.

It's close by, I like the people who work there, they've got good pool tables, and sometimes I don't want to drink alone at home.
