that was fucked up. he went wrong way on a one way street, blew four reds in a row on purpose including getting on to the highway, and in general was being a dick and speeding up in short areas. I kept telling him this wasn't impressing me but in retrospect I should have just told him to let me out and get an Uber.

I was at an open mic. the guy and I had been at the same two mics tonight and were talking to each other periodically. I was hanging out with another crowd after getting to the second one but he bought me a sandwich afterward with another guy who had driven me to the second place. he offered the ride because he lived closer than the other guy to me.

no, I had no idea he was drunk. I had seen him drinking a beer but thought nothing of it. he said "oh, I had another shot I wasn't planning on having" before we left. mostly he was talking about his family so maybe I assumed he wasn't drunk but he said he's been driving drunk since the 90s after all those stunts went down.

I don't know if it was more him being a thrill seeker and trying to impress me (he mentioned this) or the alcohol but I was scared a couple of times. there was a similar time once before about 10 years ago where a guy was scaring me like that but it was different

You shouldn't have gotten in the car with him after you seen him drinking and you chose to get in the car after he said he had another shot.

Even one drink can impair someone's driving.

I should have clarified I didn't see him drink a shot, but that he later told me about it. anyway... stark reminder.

I'm just glad you're safe. It's awful you had to learn this lesson this way though. Make a point not to ever hang near him again, tell your friends about it as well. Because that's just dangerous for all of you to get involved with someone like that.

Drink drivers are scum and it should be a mandatory prison sentence.

Should have gotten out of the car and phoned the police the second you figured it out instead of letting him out yours and other innocent peoples lives at risk.
