A truly uplifting Christmas story

Seriously though, the rivalry between Aya and Eve is really good. Eve is a truly terrifying villain in terms of what she can do.

Aya Brea is an amazing character, well-fleshed out, tough but vulnerable, willing to do her duty despite all the horror she faces. I love that it's set on Christmas, adding an edge of depressive flair atypical of the season, isolating the loneliness many feel around the holidays and amplifying through the family drama of Daniel Dollis and the sparse locations, now abandoned with only Christmas trees, decorations, and a snow-filled landscape left behind. It's an epic tale that sees the military get involved and a whole city evacuated all while characters struggle with their inner turmoils and emotions. And of course, it's the intense body horror of Eve and the spontaneous combustion of the populace that symbolically turns these emotions outwards in twisted, macabre methods that truly gives the game a palpable weight and substance that will stick with you long after the credits are gone.

Just played Parasite Eve last year and thought it was solid story with a solid cast (especially the Aya vs Eve dynamic). The plot was pretty straightforward but engaging, and I love body horror so...8.5.

Absolutely wild and so singular, an absolute gem of its era or any era really. I'd nearly do a backflip if a new game in this series got announced - though maybe I should avoid tempting the monkey paw with another Third Birthday.
