I watched a video of multiple instances of them enforcing the rule, so it is an actual rule. But its a terrible rule that average viewer would know nothing about, and their enforcement of it has been iffy over the years.

WoF just added more elaborate descriptions to their puzzles in the years.

I remember when WoF returned contestants after a win like jeopardy.

I once applied for WoF.

They explicitly stated HOW you react when you get your name called is taken into account, I've seen some people on the show either be sadsacks or otherwise were just not "bubbly"

It's crazy to me that shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy have been going for so many years and they still don't realize that their audiences hate when they enforce this type of technical shit. She got the answer, give her the car Pat!

She should have said:

I've seen a few people saying "well those are the rules" and yeah, they shouldn't bend the rules. But they should amend or get rid of the rule. It's also more egregious because it was the bonus round so it's not like another contestant was getting benefitted or screwed depending on the decision.

The only justification I've heard for the rule is "well if the puzzle starts and ends with the same word like 'Deal or No Deal' and the contestant goes 'Deal or no... *pause* ...Deal' it would be ambiguous if they were finishing their answer or starting over." Which... fine, if you want to have a rule for that specific situation, sure, but 99% of the time the puzzles don't start and end with the same word. And I don't see how any rational fluent English speaker could look at that and claim she was probably making two separate guesses rather than just finishing her first guess.

The biggest thing that frustrated me about Jeopardy! to the point I stopped watching regularly is that they became extremely anal about calling small mispronunciations and misspellings wrong even if it gives no ambiguity as to what the contestant is referring to. And this rule feels like the same sort of thing.

You notice no one is a "fast food worker" or "peasant" on that show.

Always teachers, some sort of first responder, or some fancy ass title job.

Sadly the rule is you have to say the complete puzzle in order to win, but I've seen rules skirted in disfavor.

I still hate how the puzzles became uber-specific with descriptors.

Rules like this have always annoyed me on Wheel of Fortune.

Jeopardy, in my opinion, is the much more difficult game, but its rules are much more lenient. You can misspell words in final and still get credit if the pronunciation would still be correct. Much better game.

Well in those instances it can be advantageous to spin again before solving the puzzle (obviously at the risk at hitting Bankrupt or Lose a Spin).

I think like 1995? Somewhere in the mid-90s for sure.
Double Play was a token that got picked up that was kind of like a crappier version of the Wild Card, you'd turn it in *before* spinning and it would double the amount you landed on. So if you hit, say, $700, you'd get $1400 per letter. If you hit bankrupt or lose a turn when using it you lost it, but if you hit a prize they gave it back to you to try to use again later. Also unlike the wild card it had no use for the bonus round. People constantly forgot to use it and were confused as to how it worked, and it was gone after less than a season.

Megaword was a category where the puzzle was a single 8-14 letter SAT level word, which generally went on for an excruciatingly long time with nobody accumulating much money because of the shortness of the puzzle and nobody having a clue to the answer until they were down to all the really uncommon letters. Then afterwards the winner got a bonus $500 for using the word correctly in a sentence that demonstrates what it means, which was stupidly subjective but generally they'd accept pretty much anything short of "The contestants don't know what [X] means."
