Seems weird that these things were everywhere for like 10 years but I haven't really heard about them for the past 2 console generations.

Beat Saber is pretty hot shit right now. Kind of expensive "peripheral" though

Rock band 4 still releases new songs weekly but my understanding is instruments are hard to come by

There's a game called Rocksmith that came out in 2016 which is basically guitar hero with a real guitar. The game itself is no longer receiving official updates but there's a modding community that is still somewhat regularly putting out new tracks.

Interesting. The 2016 update to the original 2014 game let you keep all your old tracks, so I'll be curious to see whether this new version lets you carry your library forward or whether Ubisoft is attempting to double dip by making you re-buy all your old tracks.

I believe the new game is a subscription model

There is a free game on PC called Clone Hero, which is a fan made guitar hero clone, and fans have ported basically all the songs from the various guitar hero/rock band games. But you do need your own guitar. I use a 360 guitar with a 360 pc wireless adapter. If you ever watch modern guitar hero streamers, often times now they are just playing Clone Hero instead of the original games

drum n' fun goes on sale on the eshop pretty often. It's a lot of fun even on controller, the drum controller can be a bit expensive

Ring Fit Adventure for the Switch has a music rhythm game mode very similar in style to Guitar Hero if you are into that. It has tracks from a few Nintendo games.
