Deal or no deal?

It's a hypothetical. But if you need a justification, we'll say that Bush "forgot" to swear in to his second term and the presidency was retroactively declared "vacant" from 2004 to 2008. (And that the loophole has been closed so that nobody else could do it.) In 2016, he ran again and became president.

  • Dick Cheney would have remained Bush's VP
  • Bush would have told people to wear a mask
  • Bush would have (mildly) denounced racism
  • Bush would have absolutely kept the War in Afghanistan going -- but would not have sent troops back to Iraq
  • After Bush's third term, Biden would have won the 2020 election over Trump. Whether he would have ordered troops to leave Afghanistan is entirely dependent upon whether or not he would have stopped the war without his predecessor doing so.
Would America today be better or worse for it?

That's not required anyway, the swearing in ceremony is just that... ceremonial. The president-elect automatically becomes president at (I believe) noon on inauguration day no matter what they swear or what they swear on.

But yeah, I'd have taken a third Bush term over a single Trump term. And I think the absence of entrenched Trumpism would absolutely be better off for us.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

It was a hypothetical loophole. It's just an excuse.

The underlining question is whether Bush 3 or Trump 1 would have been worse/better.

Trump doesn't become president, and Bush gets arrested for violating the Constitution. Everybody wins.

I'd elect W to the office for the rest of his natural, and unnatural, born days if it meant never having Trump in the first place (or hell, again)

Atleast Bush wasn't a racist bully. An idiot puppet to warhawks and the rich yes, but racist?

Hell he might of just cleared brush on his land and drawn paintings instead of inciting a civil war.

Welp, that was a weeks worth of political talk from me,until next year.

Eh, I can kinda understand it. Bush started unpopular wars, while trump mostly spent his time making mean tweets. Unpopular and successful president would be preferable to an extremely unpopular president who didn't do much besides make people really mad.

Nope, because everyone with the power to do that is too gutless to actually do something like that. At best, Bush would get impeached, but they'd leave it at that.
