Records that basically have been stagnant since the 80s back when the eastern bloc was pumping every athlete so full of PEDs that they were just killing them left and right are finally being broken, with a 500kg total between the snatch and C&J in sight.

Lasha Talakhadze has been the greatest for a while but a couple of days ago he topped the best lifts regardless of weight class, so it can't be argued any more. He's just the GOAT, end of story.

Cool stuff. You don't need to give a fuck about the sport to understand that a man being able to throw 588lbs over his fucking head is ridiculous

As far as I know eddie hall still stands as the heaviest competition deadlift at 500kg with straps, so I doubt that unless it was with a different bar height or something. In any case weightlifting is a totally different beast.

He's fat as fuck but the sport doesn't reward low body fat unless you're trying to get into a specific weight division so it's not something they tend to bother with.

If you want the aesthetic gods of weightlifting look up Lu Xiaojun and Klokov.

While I admit that lifting over 1,200lbs in any situation is very impressive, I still don't see the general appeal of professional weightlifting.

It's a pretty dirty sport but

• lifting shit is dope
• powerlifting is fun but it's slow
• olympic lifting is like powerlifting but with more skill and explosiveness
• Olympic weightlifters tend to be absolutely incredible athletes in every other regard. The transfer of strength is insane

You could probably take this guy and make him an elite shotputter, linebacker, hammerthrower, strongman, etc. Just unreal athletic ability hidden under a big fatboy suit.

He's fat on purpose. As long as he's got the muscle underneath it all then there's no reason to slim down since the body burns shit in proportion to how much you have so the more muscle you have the more fat you need to have to make sure your muscle losses are outweighed (heh) by your fat losses.

Its a little different, at least. Thr guys are more stringently tested now so its unlikely they're as totally juiced as they were back then. But yeah Lasha did get busted some years back.
