Current Events > 2 questions. When does Twin Peaks take a nosedive and how big a nosedive?

Finally started this classic series and I've really gotten into it but what I've heard about a drop in quality for a good chunk of the show worries me.

Halfway through season 2 or so.

It's still okay for some parts , and the finale is one of the best episodes, but ratings and quality just plummeted in the 2nd half

Season 2.

Been a while so not sure if it happens right away or after an important event happens, but boy it takes a very big nosedive. Some really awful stuff, buuuut there's always something good going on and it ends up really good again at the end of the season.

It's worth it imo.

I hear Season 3 is great but it also looks like it went full on Abstract. So far TP seems likes it's been supernatural weirdness more than metaphorical abstractness.

The game finally got an english patch not that long ago! I haven't played much of the game yet, but the gameplay reminds me heavily of Shenmue.

Yeah S1&2 are the only ones with the soap opera quality to it. The movie is like half soap opera half wtf. The S3 is all wtf.

I've only played a bit but yeah heavy Shenmue vibes. Also love that car.

Honestly sounds like itll be so different it loses me. Not that I mind wtf stuff but I like this for being a supernatural mystery with fun quirky characters.

Tbh it's most likely that the movie and Return is how Lunch and Frost originally envisioned the series but was limited to networks at the time about what content they could create.

Yeah it's shocking it came out a full year before Shenmue. It's fun to drive the car. I remember the game glitched one time and everything was gone except the car and I was able to make the car do barrel rolls, it was insane!

This show should be taught in classes on networks meddling with art

Probably true, though maybe to some degree for the best. Seems like the series got screwed with the nosedive but I dont think itd be as good as a pure wtf show. Then again for pure wtf insanity I'm more team Jodorowsky than Lynch.

Haha that sounds amazing. Yeah I think they were really pushing the ps1 with that game.

Its Japan only but it recently got an English patch. It's definitely a very forward thinking game.

I did really miss the soap opera aspect in the later stuff but I dealt with it. Just know that S1&2 have their own tone, the movie has its own tone, and S3 has its own tone. If you go into them not expecting more of the show then you'll be fine.

I'll be honest and say I didn't really like S3 for the exact reason you stated. Don't get me wrong, I could tell it was a masterpiece if you liked full-blown David Lynch, but I quickly realized I don't. I liked it a lot better when he was reigned in by the network.

Then the network overdid it in S2 and it nosedived a bit but hey.

I know I didnt like Mulholland Dr when I watched it. Thats actually what kept me away from Twin Peaks for so long.
