Got a couple of doctors here making the case that current widespread practices of not aspirating before administering intramuscular injections is likely responsible for many of the major complications, by inadvertently getting a blood vessel.

Have just confirmed that the official recommendation in my area, Ontario Canada, is to not aspirate. "Aspiration is not recommended. There are no large blood vessels near the intended deltoid injection site." and it cites three sources. And I know it wasn't done for my first two doses, felt almost nothing.

Yet, these guys seem pretty legit.. Is this a discussion you think should be opened up?

yeah it sounds like they've become quite uncommon, but.. if there's even a small chance of a botched (IV) jab, why shouldn't they be done? something about infection?? surely the fact that aspiration makes it slightly less comfortable isn't a great reason not to unless there are zero drawbacks to not doing it
