For the record, I'm not claiming that any goal the Republican party has is as noble as fighting poverty or cancer. (They're more likely to contribute to both.)

But I know a lot of Republicans who are afraid of America becoming a welfare state, an anarchistic Mad Max wasteland (if you defund the police), or Soviet Russia. So, yeah, there's a lot of fear-mongering and people who think they're stopping the world from going to Hell.

It's okay. I have a relative who bought a farmhouse in Tennessee because he thinks society is going to collapse. I'm sure he has a lot of ammo stored up, but I really doubt that would help him if hordes of starved people made up their mind to steal his chickens.

Maybe he should join a motorcycle gang. They always seem to fare the best during the zombie outbreaks and the nuclear apocalypses.
