I have a great job and I am happy in life and I never went to college. And I likely never will. I'm proud of that too.

Parents divorcing, too far away, risking it big, too boring, crazy stuff like colleges indoctrinating people, not able to get loans for whatever reason, anything that could conceivably keep them out.

If I pay back $500 per month on my student loans I'm only paying interest.
Since graduating and working the entire time, I've only actually paid off a few thousand dollars of my loans.

Our education system is a joke designed to keep us constantly in debt.

Probably because it is a scam? Taking out loans to go to college is a fools move in an era where you can learn practically anything if you have discipline and passion through the internet. College education is largely unnecessary. The only reason i even entertain the thought of returning is for the challenge but i would pay for everything out of pocket and major in something useful like mathematics or chemistry.

Financial Aid will cover 4k for me total. That's around 4-5 classes tops. If I stretch it. That leaves about another 15k or so if I want to achieve an associate degree. And another 20k on top of that if I want a bachelor's.

And that's assuming I don't eat food, own a car, pay rent. And don't work a full time job. With a full time job I'm looking at 4-8 years before completion. If I don't have a job, and can somehow have money to afford it. That will lower it to 4-6 years. If I pass every class on time.

Not a single job out there "needs" college. You need the drive to learn, that's all. Colleges are no longer the centers of information they were before the internet existed. Anyone has the ability to learn anything they want.

Too bad employers don't accept degrees from U of Tube.

By the way, neither a mathematics degree nor a chemistry degree alone are useful in the job market.

At this point I consider it unnecessary. It can help sure but unless you've got a clear idea of what you're using your time at college to accomplish, you may as well use that money to scam *cough* sell NFT or whatever the young people are up to these days.

College is a scam. Sure paper is needed to get certain jobs, but in reality, it does nothing. You learn what you need to know once you're there for the most part unless it's something like the medical field.

Plus you could easily lie and say you went to college. I've seen people do this and succeed. The last thing employers really want to hear is the truth. They want to see nice things to put in their records to justify hiring you. Lie your ass off to these corporate fucks and get paid.

There's a fair few that need access to resources that the average person can't access.

Like medicine, I'm pretty sure you don't want the home-trained surgeon who hasn't actually cut anyone yet.

I do get jealous at those that finished college early, while it has been taking long for me to get the required qualifications.
I do hate it my health was so bad in college, especially I had to miss a team meeting since I was in the hospital that required surgery for my lower back. Then to top it of I got a virus before I fully recovered from my surgery so more time I had to miss my team meeting.

In 2023 I should be done with my A Level. Then later I can either focus on getting a better job with more pay or go to University.

Incorrect. You can't be a brain surgeon without an MD. You can't be a lawyer without a JD. You can't be a college professor without a terminal degree.

Yeah, when I went to college, I was still dealing with major health issues. I got viral meningitis the summer before 9th grade. I went from being an A and B student in the top 15% of my class to failing classes for the 1st time. I couldn't remember stuff that I had learned 20 minutes earlier at times. It wasn't until I was maybe 22 or 23 that I realized it was the medication they put me on to control the seizures that was causing the memory loss issues.

And then they kept increasing the dosage as the years went on, so it got worse. When I was in college, it was crazy bad. I was always losing my cell phone because I would often forget where I put it.
  • Got on the bus with my backpack to go home. Got off the bus without my backpack. Didn't realize I didn't have my backpack until I was half way home from the bus stop. Went back and waited a couple hours for the bus to come back around... My backpack was gone.
  • I wanted to get some cash, so I put my ATM card in the machine and withdrew money. I walked away without my ATM card. By the time I realized I didn't have my card, the machine had long since eaten my card. Had my mom overnight me a new card. Did the exact same thing the next day.

All that on top of the fact that I was taking all prerequisite courses that had nothing to do with my major and I didn't care about any of them. I didn't want to spend another $13k for another year of all that.

I know i said college is a scam but i do have an associates in fine arts and while the things i learned did not help me the actual parts like having to memorize stuff and do research actually are useful. I should clarify that college is only a scam if you take out loans for it. If you get a degree for free that is a no brainer that it is worth it. The problem is most folks simply cannot get it for free.

Its expensive and its not like a degree guarantees you a well-paying job or anything.

Hell, the only reason I finally went was because I found out my former jobs union offered a free associate degree program.
