I think Bernie could've had a clean win in 2016.

2020 would've been harder, as a decent chunk of the "fuck the establishment" voters had been securely absorbed into the Trump cult. Biden's appeal was a return to "normalcy", which is stupid, but probably what won him the election, and isn't something Bernie was running on.

Trump was in a uniquely weak position where the election was less about who was running as a democrat and more about being a referendum on the current administration. Joe Biden barely campaigned and spent the debates and a great deal of his press time looking like mister magoo and still won handily. It would have taken a uniquely terrible candidate to not win that election

If Bernie did lose to Trump it'd be because the media, wealthy elite, and political establishment chose to rally behind his opponent, which is why he lost to Biden to begin with.

You'd see stuff like a contested convention at the DNC and Bloomberg running independent, all explicitly to keep a progressive populist out of office.

Of course not. Bernie getting fucked by the DNC only proves that the two real parties in this country are billionaires and everyone else. Why else would they railroad a clearly better candidate?

Bernie was consistently polled to beat Trump in both 2016 and 2020 despite everyone knowing he's a democratic socialist. The only way he'd lose that lead is if the political world threw its weight behind Trump.

Were they by the same people who said Clinton was going to win 99% of the time? Bernie Sanders stood no chance in an actual election. America will never turn to socialism, sorry that you had to hear it from me.

I believe he couldn't, and likely still can't, win a Democratic Primary.

The rest is mostly irrelevant, as if you can't garner enough support to get the nomination, how you would theoretically do in the big election means fuck all.

I think Bernie loses to Trump twice and I donated to Bernie and voted for him every chance I had. I just think this country is not progressive at all. We talk about progressive ideas and all that but when the voting actually occurs we're still a center-right country as a whole.

Bernie would not have won because Republicans and Democrats are both capitalists. The only way a social or democratic socialist can win is by going third party.

That would mean forfeiting the next election to Republicans since the party would be taking votes away from Democrats. The election after that would likely have the same results. After that, Democrats would have to accept that they're going to have go to socialist to win.

It's an "it will get worse before it gets better" scenario, but you'll have to do it if you ever want to see socialism in America. Right now, socialists are losing 100% of elections. So what really do they have to lose from this scenario? (Please wait until Trump is no longer running though. I don't want to see him win by default.)

Bernie isn't a Democrat. He's an independent who ran for the Dem. nomination because their policies are the closest to his of the two big parties. Of course he'd lose the primaries to Democratic leaders.
