I stopped after Civil War. That movie was really good tho. I just fell out the mix and it moved too fast for me to care to catch up. Then spoilers for the Avenger movies were givin so nonchalant, I figured it took all the potency out of it anyway. Which, it is what it is. People were sharing in the moment.

I think debates like this are the reason some people glaze over. The "it's not canon at the moment but it might be at some point" isn't exactly helpful. It makes people think they need to watch it or they might miss out on things. I'm pretty sure there have been some easter eggs in the movies linked to some of the shows I listed above.

It's not really different to how Star Wars handled it. Did you need to watch any of the cartoons, play any of the games or read any comics to understand what was happening on those movies? No. Canon usually only matters to nerds who end up finding discrepancies anyway.

Pretty sure we've had guys like James Gunn say they didn't need to know about the TV shows.

I dunno though Loki, Wanavision, Falcon... they all seem to be pretty integral to the bigger arcs moving forwards. I've not seen Hawkeye yet so don't know if that counts.

So if I've never seen any of the non D+ shows then I'm not going to miss anything if DD shows up in a movie at some point?

The old shows weren't canon because they were still licensing them out. They made a studio specifically to create new, canon Disney + shows. Unlike the old shows, they're made under the supervision of Kevin Feige, so they're taken into consideration for the movies going forward.

The shows come out weekly, and it only takes like 5 hours to watch one of the shows in its entirety.
Movie-wise, it looks like they're only doing 3 movies a year. Really shouldn't be too hard to keep up with. Like others said, none of the Runaways. Inhumans, etc is necessary to watch if you don't want to.
Of course if somebody never saw any MCU stuff and was starting from scratch, I can see how it vould be overwhelming.

The canonicity of Agent's of SHIELD, the Netflix shows, Runaways and Cloak & Dagger is all very nebulous.

They were all written as if they are canon to the MCU and use the world of the MCU as their backdrop, but they were all created before Marvel Studios had a television division so they were kind of in their own corner as far as grand plans go. At the current moment you could probably say they are canon in the sense that they haven't been explicitly de-canonized, but I would anticipate any other MCU projects to reference their events. Though given statements from Feige regarding Charlie Cox's Daredevil that could change before too long.

It's well known that the shows are forced to build stories around the movies and the movies are likely to contradict them at any point because the movies aren't written with regards to the shows.

Essentially it's the same thing as the star wars EU.

Just to reiterate, none of these are MCU canon and are not required viewing in any way. Feige and guy running the old Marvel tv studio did not agree and Feige essentially ignored all those shows while producing the movies. Easiest way to picture it is they are all spinoff multiverses after the Incident in Avengers. Yes, some plot threads are the same and there are some same actors, but they don't count.

Only the D+ shows are MCU canon, and I highly suggest watching all of them, though you can skip F&tWS as it has the least to do with the larger MCU story going forward. WV and Loki are absolute must-watches, and Hawkeye is really good so far.

Not really. Right now if you want to watch Daredevil and believe it takes place in the MCU there is nothing stopping you. But also if you don't watch Daredevil you'll not be out of the loop for the next MCU movie because it isn't gonna be referenced.

Compare that to say...Wandavison, where it's events are a minimum are gonna come up in Multiverse of Madness. But like Disney has made it pretty obvious which of the TV series are gonna get direct movie tie-ins (the ones on D+).

Crossover actors does not make the old show canon, it just means they agree with the casting.

I doubt the Netflix shows will ever be canon outside of the multiverse tangentially linking them.

No, need to start with The Incredible Hulk show from the 70s. Its going to be important for the next MCU Hulk appearance.

Sarcasm aside, to this point no MCU film has made any TV show required viewing. The D+ shows are canon. The other shows are not. Canon shows/movies may reuse actors, but that does not retroactively make their series canon.

Edit: Damn, Magnus beat me to it. Thats what I get for not refreshing.
