Back around the time of the American Civil War Chicago had the bright idea of raising the sewers so that gravity would move the waste. The Palmer House of Chicago hired about 200 workers to simultaneously jack up the hotel so that waste would flow into the sewers instead of out.

Now, 102 municipalities drain into the Chicago Sewers. There are aeration parks to the south of the city. I am sure that this helps.

My point? A typical rental building like mine does not have valves up for today's task. 5 years ago the valves may have been up for it but the load increases and the valves do not get upgraded.

The City of Chicago should maybe pay owners to upgrade their valves when it adds new customers?
