He is of italian descent but not italian. An italian lives in italy.

Now what i wanna know is what you guys think of the lady making the rounds on the internet because she is white but claims to be black. Apparently she had 2 black parents but she came out white.

lol oh man, it most certainly is. Italian =/= Catholic. Although the relationship is certainly intertwined and complicated.

Obviously lol, but even though they're intertwined, they're also separate identities. Not the first time I've had this discussion recently, since the chick I was dating, well, some members of her family didn't think there was any difference. But she certainly thought there was. =P

It's just a cultural difference about how identity is perceived between a giant continent-spanning country where everyone is a the same and feels a need to express individuality, and people from a tiny continent full tiny, different nations that easily set themselves apart from each other.

Absolutely not. Italian is a word used for people who come from Italy, not for people who believe in religious balderdash.

Technically a little murky. If your grandfather was an Italian citizen you can claim Jure Sanguinis (by decent) citizenship.

I did it for Polish citizenship. So I have dual citizenship and have passed dual citizenship to my kids as well.

Descending from the mountains is how you spend 50% of your time in Italy. The other 50% is spent going back up.

It makes sense if there's still a cultural connection. Like if you speak the language, celebrate national holidays or were raised in the country's traditions etc.

If the connection is *only* genetic, then yeah, it's meaningless to use the nationality of an ancestor to label yourself. It doesn't describe you more than your blood type does.
