This is something that crossed my mind recently. When I think of a phobia, I think of an illness. Usually a mental illness of some kind. Does transphobia fall under that line of thinking? I mean being Transphobic that isnt the same line as racism right? Being a Racist is more like an actual hatred for another race.

Transphobia is more like a fear right? Is there a term that represents more of a hatred for trans people instead of a phobia? Is Transphobia on the same level as racism and Im getting too caught up in the terminology?

or, phobia doesn't always mean 'fear of'. the definition you're probably looking for here is 'aversion to'

I love when people pretend they are incapable of speaking language outside of very specific dictionary definition of terms. Apparently everyone is a third-grade English-teaching nun who makes you repeat yourself if you use a contraction or slang, at least when it benefits them to be.

There are thousands of things the human race says every day that divert from the original or literal definition of a term. Linguistics is more than reading the dictionary.

Language is a tool with a purpose, guiding the evolution of language requires an elegant touch or it could cause absolute chaos. How much do you fucking cry when you hear the word "literally" used to describe something that is not quite so literal? I freak out about the collapse of society when people try to ban homosexuality. You freak out about the collapse of society when you hear someone use phobia to describe an aversion that isn't a professionally-diagnosed disorder that induces a panic attack.

It shows that the transphobe has a one-track mind. They can't handle things which defy simple labeling, so they get mad when someone they think is male is actually female or vice-versa.

What triggers their fear is that labeling is a defense mechanism. When someone defies labels, it makes the transphobe uncomfortable. Again though, that's a failing on the transphobe and not the trans person. People have a right to exist. If life places them in a body they're not comfortable with, they have a right to do all that is within their power to change it.
