Ignore the name of the article and don't read the comments. This story is crazy right? Like, insane? Like, this is actually the Twilight Zone.

The other student said that Trogan has repeatedly called her by the wrong name despite her correcting him.

'I felt really disrespected,' they told the student paper. 'I did not feel heard because every time he (misnamed me) I would tell him, and it just seemed like he would brush it off or that he did not care.'

and

He had pushed students to file a formal complaint with the university if they still felt offended by the incident.

'Depending on your response to the officials above, I may - or may not - be your professor in class next week. It's all up to you,' he wrote.

sounds like he was asking for it

it is. But he just went over the top by writing a 9 page paper to the students about the situation

I only skimmed the story but it sounds like he might have gotten away with it if he had just let it go. His efforts to smooth things over led to his end. I guess he went too far

Is this story for real?

Trogan said that the university cited the nine-page email rather than the name mix-up as the main reason for his termination and that he did not show 'proper development' from the conversation on October 5.

Apparently at least your version of the story is not for real. You should read your own source next time.

You are correct. I missed this. That said, the fact that it ever got to that point still stands as ridiculous. What does proper development mean? Who knows! Why is mixing up names worthy of being an inciting incident of anything anyways? If this was the worst my college professor did I would shit rainbows.

And whose fault is it that two students privately complaining to the professor resulted in him sending his entire class a seemingly incoherent 9 page rant that got him fired?

Seems like a very, very easy wrongful termination lawsuit. And it says he's considering legal action against the school, so good on him.

Yeah, you don't realize that this hurts your argument, not helps it.

"The nine page report he submitted doesn't represent him on his hands and knees while wearing a gimp mask, licking our boots while repeatedly proclaiming what an honor it is to be our dog and that he is lower than an earthworm so we fired him."

It's fun to make things up and pretending literally anyone other than you said them.

Mixing up a name once or twice is neither shitty nor abusive, pinhead.

ABUSIVE?! Literally everyone had nice things to say about him. I have worked with people for years and sometimes I still forget their names. It's not because I don't care. I do. But sometimes my brain just can't reach it. I just apologize. There's nothing malicious about it at all. I don't want people to feel bad. I can't imagine how easy it is for a professor to mix up names. Or any teacher for that manner. Over 200 hundred students at least across all classes. So many faces. So many faces year in and out. So many students with the same name. So many students with similar names or even students that may look alike. Like, I get it man.

I suppose we don't know what he wrote in that 9 page document. I have a hard time believing it's anything other than an apology and an explanation of why it happens. Probably some stuff about why he is a teacher. Things like that.

Seems justified, but Fordham is still a shit private that charges $40k+ but is in the middle of the hood.

Same place Andrew Cuomo graduated from and Trump went to as well before he transferred to UPenn.

But he didn't even do an apology to those two. According to them at least. The named student flat out says if he just apologized it wouldn't have been an issue. And the unnamed student said he had been doing this to her repeatedly and not really caring when she told him about it.

It says something when the two students involved in this didn't even file a formal complaint and the professor made it a bigger issue than it was.

Fair enough. I'm having a hard time parsing how everything went down in my head but I suppose that I will say that perhaps he jumped the gun with the document and maybe said something he shouldn't have in there. And that would be on him in that case. I am fine accepting those sequence of events. Wrote more than he should have and said less than he should.

After it's been repeatedly pointed out to you that it said so in the article you misread to construct an entirely different narrative.

Next time you fluff yourself into a righteous indignation think of how easy it was to get there and how much effort it took to get you to realize you were wrong, even though it was literally written in the thing that made you upset in the first place.

I didn't misread, I skimmed. I even said not to read the title of the article. I said this to not color your perception of the piece. I admitted I could be wrong. It was not a big deal for me to change my mind. Yes, I could have reread the article but discussing it with people was even more fruitful. Have a good night.
