In Buddhism, we call it skillfulness. Everything that requires skill usually takes a bit of patience and time. In reality, skillfulness requires us to slow down our minds. When there is no slowing down the mind, when there is no skillfulness, there is only bluntness. It's absolutely fine to say the truth, but it must be skillful as to not cause suffering. Or at least minimal suffering. You can convey your point very accurately if you slow down. It takes a lot of practice or skill to achieve this.
