46th: Laser

Laser was one of the original abilities to appear in Kirbys Adventure.

With it, Kirby could shoot laser beams. The main property of this ability was that the lasers could bounce off ledges. Ledges were a newly introduced feature in Adventure, so the relation laser had to ledges mightve been to introduce players to more complicated terrain compared to what had previously appeared in Kirbys Dream Land.

Like Throw, Laser was originally exclusively in Adventure, then made a reappearance in the Flagship games due to Nightmare in Dream Lands existence and the Flagship games reusing the assets from NiDL, then never appeared ever again.

A few notes about Laser:

• The closest thing to Laser in the modern games is Beam, another ability that debuted in Adventure.
• Normally, the enemy that gives out Laser is Laser Ball. However, Laser Ball appeared in Super Star, despite there being no Laser ability in that game. In this game, Laser gives out Beam instead, further suggesting the connection between Beam and Laser.
• There is, however, the Reactor boss fight in Revenge of Meta Knight in Kirby Super Star. The Reactor can only be hurt/defeated through its own lasers. When Kirby defeats the Reactor, the Wheelies that were being used as a power source for the Halberd are set free. Later on, when the Halberd is sinking towards the ocean, one of the Wheelies that escaped helps Kirby get to land before its too late, presumably as thanks for what Kirby did for them earlier.
• In Squeak Squad, you can obtain a copy ability scroll for Laser from a treasure chest that allows Kirby to use another move; a charged version of the ordinary laser. This version is stronger.
• One of UFOs B moves is the laser from this ability, coming after the beam but before the spit star.
