Buildings used to have one furnace. Now each apartment has its own furnace (and housing has a hidden cost).

Do the little furnaces cause less pollution or would one big boiler cause less pollution? I am certain that the one big boiler is more fuel efficient and cost efficient.

It's all about insulation and heat retention.
Small heaters or heating coils do the trick
