The combat is flashy and cool but I don't know what I'm doing with this new battle system. This trend of jrpgs trying to make their combat as flashy as possible with sparks flying everywhere isn't what's gonna make people play more jrpgs is it...

I like how this time they upped the graphics and really made it look like a ps4 title. But I miss the old style skits. Anime in 3d just doesn't work, the character models are super creepy and not as expressive as 2d or even hand drawn animation. They simply can't compete with western developers and should stick with their forte.

Overall it really makes me feel like an old fogey because I'm just overwhelmed by all the changes from the Tales I'm used to of 15 years ago. Not to mention how tiny the "HD" text is in menus, battle screens, HUD, etc. It's like they insist on making the font as small as possible and occupying the tiniest portion of my huge 65 inch screen with all that empty space dedicated to nothing.

I'm coming off Tales of Berseria so the cast of Arise has to live up to some pretty high standards set by Berseria, which has the best voice cast and characters of all time.
