Ive been spending a lot of time with my sister and her kids lately, itd be a nightmare trying to raise them if she couldnt stay home. I feel so bad for all the parents who dont have that option.

I mean he's not wrong......someone should be home to take care of the kids, whether that be the mother or the father. It's not a gender roles thing.

What's funny is that many certain people who wish times were like that again with nuclear families and dad providing while mom takes care of the house and kids are the same ones who vote for a party that helped take that all away. They pine for that way of life yet tell people they should work 3 jobs at the same time and don't want wages to keep up with inflation.

I think what TC is arguing is that one person should be able to support a family with their wages.

I was just thinking this.

The party of "family values" doing everything in their power to ensure that parents spend so much time at work that they don't have time to raise their kids.

Just another example of conservative beliefs being fundamentally opposed and trampling all over each other.

Even farther, I think TC is arguing that we used to be able to support a family on one income and now it takes two. Which leads to kids needing daycare (super expensive) or a babysitter constantly (also kind of expensive if you don't have a parent who can do it)

Fuck that. If youre an adult and your kids are in school I dont see any reason you shouldnt be working.

Taking care of the home isnt a full time responsibility.

Daycare is still super overpriced but theres no way adults should have any expectation to just not have a job.

Only until like 2 o'clock. Most full-time adults don't get off work until 5 or 6 and don't even have the energy to devote to their kids when they get off.

Elementary gets out at like 4PM. Middle/high schoolers get out at like 230 and they should be almost self sufficient by that age.

Im not saying both parents need a full time job but you could easily have a part time job and not miss anything.

If you have kids you can get a job that works with their school schedule.

If people dont want their partner to work thats fine but dont act like its a full time job when its not.

Yeah but the whole problem being discussed is that both parents are required to either work full-time or take on multiple jobs to make ends meet.

The only reason school needs to exist in 2021 is for the social interactions. All the education material is on the internet.

Not until they are like 5 or 6. By the time my youngest is in school full time it will have been 11 years between when the oldest was born and the youngest started school.
Not to mention that kids get summers off, and a whole bunch of random days and half days off school, as well as leaving for school after a 'normal' job would start and get back from school before it would be over.

I think the problem is people live beyond their means and choose to have kids before establishing the savings to support them.

Just my opinion but having kids doesnt free you from the responsibility of having a job.

Not at all. The idea that one person should carry the entire financial burden of supporting a family is absolutely ridiculous. It always has been.

Adults should have a job. Thats the real world.

Tons of families that live paycheck to paycheck with two incomes could probably do it with one.

My Wife and I actually talked about it. Our Mortgage is like $1500 a month. We probably spend $500 a month in just booze and $1000 a month eating out. Another few hundred for our cell phone plan. A few more hundred for dancing lessons for the daughter.

In short, we could keep the house on one income but we would have to live like Boomers did.

It's all about priorities. My wife hates working but she likes how we can go to the Cheesecake factory and she can go on Amazon shopping sprees on occasions.

Thats why Im saying people arent required to work full time jobs. Theyre just living above their means. Im not saying you shouldnt be able to shop, drink and go out to eat but Im not gonna believe society is broken because you cant do it on one income. I also dont see how anyone could expect to live like that while not working at all. Its just not reality.

The government already favors families over single people anyway. As a single dude I dont get tax credits or any help from the government whatsoever.

I see people with kids get fat tax returns and blowing it every year.

This is when the world went to total shit.

So, to be clear, youre saying the point where it became impossible for a family to survive on one income because of late stage capitalism, lack of regulations, and general corporate fuckery backed by the republicans party, is the point the world went to total shit?

I mean. When youre right, youre right.
