Doing a quick search on IMDB shows that there were a couple of UK live action comedy shows that did it before Malcolm, but so far Malcolm in the Middle seems to be the first one in the US.

Yeah been wondering if there were any US shows that predate it since MitM predates even Scrubs

It's funny how without even googling I can tell these are clearly all British shows. Except maybe the second one due to the name.

If you were a fan of Stuart Scott / Rich Eisen Sports Center, you will like this show.

It's been at least 15 years since I watched the show, no idea how it holds up in a vacuum if you weren't old enough to watch Scott/Eisen. Also has a fun role for William H. Macy.

There were plenty of comedies in the 1950s that did not use a laugh track until it became a staple later on

Did you guys know that due to his transient ischemia, nine total concussions, and a mini-stroke, Frankie Muniz does not remember being on this show?

He says watching the show is like watching someone else with his face.

It's crazy.

To add an ironic twist to this, in the very first episode malcom suffers a head injury and on the way to the hospital makes a crack about how he probably isnt going to remember any of this

It's not that I'm familiar with sports, I just really like Aaron sorkin's writing and characters

He's lying. He just doesn't want people bothering him about the show anymore. Imagine hundreds/thousands of people a day hammering you about a show you did as a kid. It's been 20 years. He's just moved on.

Malcolm may have partial amnesia which is unfortunate, but Dewey's actor just disappeared off the face of the earth. He didn't even show up for the group reunion photo, even the twins appeared for that and they were a late minute addition to the cast.
