Ganon himself illegally becomes ruler by usurping the King of Hyrule. That plus he kills or forces the law enforcement that served under the previous king into hiding and replaces them with monsters that won't think twice before murdering civilians.

Not to mention by birthright (and divine right), Zelda is supposed to be the ruler when the king dies. So not only does he commit regicide, but he also actively prevents the rightful ruler from ruling.
The king is dead, long live the king.

In OoT, Ganon cursed his village leader to die, who sent him to talk to Zelda.
Zelda gave him the quests then, and Ganon legit hits Link first.
Then the sages of the land give him the authority along with Zelda.

In LttP his uncle knew something was off, and was murdered by Ganons minions, then Zelda basically got him to do it.

I forget Twilight Princess exact order of events.

Honestly not sure how law works in Wind Waker. I assume different islands have different rules.
Ganon legit kidnaps his sister, and when he goes to get her back, Link is assaulted.

Those are the only ones I played all the way.
So usually under orders from authority to stop him, attacked or accosted first, or defending others.

Link CAN however murder Sakon in Majora's Mask for robbing an old woman. Only as he's fleeing.
That's pretty clear cut murder.

I think Zelda and Castlevania have similar series premises tbh.

Once a generation or so, a great evil awakens in the world of man and threatens to destroy everything. As if to answer this evil, a person descended from a bloodline of heroes takes up their birthright and slays the wicked creature.

Do all games have the same layout? No. Aria of the Moon features the Morris family instead of the Belmonts, and Link's Awakening is a fetch quest to wake up a sleeping fish. But it does sum up the main series games of both franchises. Though saying that, you do play as Alucard in SotN, so even that's a shaky claim to make I suppose.
