You (or your higher-ups) have requested that a first-time fantasy writer de-age their protagonists to teenagers in order to appeal more to a young demographic. 24 hours later, you receive a PDF file of a complete prequel book in lieu of rewrites.

Would you be pissed because they gave you a second book instead of the one you asked rewrites for? Or would you be impressed that they had the foresight to write a prequel before submitting the first book for approval?

Impressed, because being pissed would almost certainly make me not a publisher anymore as any writer worth their pen would immediately be looking for a less worthless publisher.

His book, his choice. Also, most of my favorite series would have probably benefitted from the mains being young adults instead of teenagers. Wheel of Time, The Lord of the Rings. This ain't Power Rangers.
