Hell no, standard side quests are some of the least rewarding in the game. It's best to use them for lower-level jobs, but even then, the experience is pretty insignificant

MSQ gives way too much exp if you intend to only use one job. Hell the MSQ gives enough exp to support leveling like 3 jobs.

A job is like waiter, or manager, or plumber. Classes is where you go to to learn stuff.

I just started playing and was wondering the same thing. I hit lvl 20 earlier today and was excited to get a mount only to find I was way behind on the MSQ chain. Time to lay off the side quests for a while

yeah i did them because they were there but then i realized they were always just "hey theres some monsters go kill them." or "i need fruit, go get them"

which can lead to things, but these dont..

It's effectively two tiers of the same thing.

Originally the idea was that you'd mix different jobs to get a class. (I think Scholar, for instance, needed like, level 30 in Arcanist, but also level 15 in Conjurer). And you could also level up a tertiary job to add skills to your class. (Scholar had access to some thaumaturgy skills) But they dropped that almost immediately. None of the new classes after Ninja (which was supposed to be part of the base game anyway, iirc) required going through a job first. You just do their unlock quest and off you go. And the tertiary skills all unlock naturally without needing to cross-level.
