But first off, I didnt trash the room, so not a lot of work needs to be done.

Secondly, the rom has a literal dishwasher in it and one of my knives was rusted and dirty as fuck. It was clearly not washed before I checked in. That's a fucking no-no for me, especially given it was a larger sort of all purpose knife. I respect knives like that. Leaving it dirty was not acceptable.

i never thought of the concept, but my sister briefly worked for a hotel that left small envelopes in the rooms specifically for leaving gratuity. on more than one occasion she found the envelope crumpled up and thrown next to the trash bin. somebody left a colostomy bag on the envelope.

so since then i've always left tips

I work the front desk at a pair of sister hotels. The things people do to these rooms is astonishing. Like, even the most well mannered well dressed business man will just totally trash everything. The housekeepers always have so much work to do, even after a slow night. Just because people think it's fine to have someone else pick up after them. They totally earn the tips, imo. Of course, if the room isn't cleaned properly when you check in they don't, but for the most part someone busted their ass to get it in acceptable conditions.

None of the rooms at either hotel I work at have dishwashers or knives in the rooms. So, I'm unfamiliar with how that works, but if you feel the knife was enough that they don't get a tip, that's that. It's your money, you don't have to give extra. I'm just saying that they likely put in a lot of effort to get the room clean before you arrived.

I keep my do not disturb sign on so they never come in and clean. I also dont leave a huge mess therefore I only leave my pocket change as a tip. In Vegas I'll also leave my small amount game vouchers.
