Yeah, staggering gives you free attacks (usually), which is why people like 1v1 clinchlocking so much. There's a perk to win clinches easier, which can be useful against stronger opponents -- maybe. Make sure to train with Bernard a bit, as he can teach you other useful abilities.

Don't worry about missing that -- it's held weekly and you'll need to do it multiple times (as the victor) to get the unique equipment it drops. I don't remember if the equipment is really top-tier stuff or not, but if you don't have anything better, I'm sure it'll do just fine.

I highly recommend seeking out Bernard for training for a bit. It is probably the single best way to get your combat skills up. In addition it let's you learn 1 REALLY useful skill.

I've done it a bit, was gonna be hitting that this morning.

Instead I'm hunting with Sir Franz.

I had 40 arrows, I left with 4 hares, I'm calling 10 percent out-fucking-standing for this game.

I beat Franz too, he gave me 100 gold.

I am embarrassingly excited about it, it's the most fucking level 1 bullshit.

Did they fix the glitches in the game?

Fun story about the Hans hunt: if you already have a horse coming in, you can follow him and he won't get kidnapped by Cumans. I found this out accidentally while doing my no-kill (well, one-kill) run, which meant to complete the quest, I had to defeat the enemies "nonlethally" to save our intrepid brat. I think I had to use poison and the Headcracker perk (10% chance for auto-KO on headshots) to have a chance and barely made it through after many resets. I forget if kills from your dog count toward you.

Anyways I trained the mace weapon at Bernards, got a bunch of armor now I'm a walking tank. Can fight 4 guys at once no problem, makes the game a little too easy.

Oh yeah, forgot about the floating heads/invisible clothing/etc. town stuff. It happens by riding horses in town. If you dismount before entering, it probably won't happen as much. As much as I love the game, there are certain optimization issues that do bring down the performance. Hopefully those'll be fixed in sequels.

Yeah but you earned it for doing mace training with Bernard. Sword and axe training you just use baby foam weapons that don't hurt. You tell the man you want to fight with a mace and next thing you know have been beaten bloody within and inch of your life with a stick.

Yeah, Bernard's training can be brutal. I forget if training with him causes bleeding that persists outside of training, but he should be able to beat up your armor and pride, at least. Luckily, there's a free-use bedroll near the east drawbridge if you haven't bought the inn bed. Speaking of which, try to always buy the inn bed so you have a good place to stash stuff -- something random beds don't allow for.

Sword and axe training causes no health damage, bleeding, injuries, or equipment damage. Mace training on the flipside will do all of that and it does persist after the training ends (aka he knocks you to like 10% health).

That said his repeatable combo training fully heals you when you do it. So you don't need to sleep or anything. Just mace training -> combo training on repeat. Also fight him either in your underwear or with some clothes you don't care about because they will get beaten up.

Got challenged by my first knight.

He was only there because of his mom, the poor guy.

Talked him down, told him to stand up for himself.

Then I choked him out and stole his shit, as per recommendation.

Left him with a pretzel and a torch.

It was going great until a villager spotted me, ran off into the wilderness shouting for guards.

Had to run him down with my horse because I'm not that good at archery and I was too overloaded with someone else's armor to sprint.

I also translated the Latin because in my head Henry has a limited form of omniscience: he can answer exactly what you wanted to hear, but like a parrot.

Accidentally fucked a barmaid, which I don't think I can really be blamed for.

I take it your drinking level was high. If it's low, when you wake up, the game tells you that your ass hurts, because someone buggered poor Henry. XD

Like I'm feeding him daily anyway, I just don't know if he has a Nourishment star like me.

I'm about 90% sure you don't ever have to feed the dog, but doing so increases his obedience or something, I think. I did a playthrough with the dog and never fed him once (I was testing something) and he was pretty much the same as always. Maybe hunting with him helps out, even if you don't give him any of the spoils.

Speaking of which, there are a few (optional) quests where you need specific hunting items, like entrails and horns, and those only drop from game if you have the related perks. Kinda annoying, considering the quests aren't that interesting or useful reward-wise, so there's a head's-up.

Buy what? Food for the dog? I think he eats jerky and stuff, plus raw fish you find in traps (etc.), so you should be able to feed him -- if you want to -- just by scraping by. If the dog gets BTFO by an enemy, which often happens in large encampments, he runs away and might take a hit to his obedience when he returns. Maybe feeding him well keeps that high? I never noticed much of an obedience deficit when he returned for me, and definitely never took that similar perk, so maybe he's really just a good boi who wants to kill Cumans.

If you meant buy entrails, antlers, etc., I'm don't think you can. I lost my shop list when my FAQ got wiped, so I can't check. You might be able to find some other stuff, like antlers, in chests. I think stealing from apothecaries (the one in Rattay is easy to rob at night) can get you some free.

Yeah, the doggo does the heavy lifting, although I think it may take a few bites to get wild boars and maybe stags. He can OHKO a lot of the others. Of course, his usefulness means you might not be levelling archery as much while hunting, so I guess that's the downside. (You'll often get to the point where you find enemies, hit one with an arrow to weaken/wound/kill one, and then switch to melee after...assuming you're not slitting their throats through stealth.)

If you're wearing heavy armor, stealth kills might be impossible to do. I think there's a perk that reduces their noise, but still, it's easier to do when you're in light armor or naked. Also, on a funny note, if you want help with the "get X headshots" trophy, knock someone out and kill them with a point-blank arrow headshot. Just like William Tell intended.

Not a very sporting way to play Blind Man's Bluff or whatever but it was surprisingly effective.

I should mention that the best horses in the game are bought from stables around the world. This is worth remembering, as there's a quest (for a miller, I think) who wants you to get him a horse and it's possible to steal one of the really good, named horses for him. Don't do this -- it permanently despawns them. If you do that quest, make sure to get him some four-legged garbage nag instead.

Understood, I was holding off on that just in case I fucked something up.

Theresa and I banged, got the McLovin' achievement.

I grabbed the Boar perk with my last Strength level, I keep accidentally running into people in combat regardless and I'm already careful about peasants.

Only the (named) horse you steal despawns, I should note, not all of them. But still, it's nice to have options available. You don't want to accidentally pawn the best horse (named Warhorse Jenda) off to some clown-ass miller, only to realize your mistake much later.

I didn't want to mention it because it plays into the money-making scheme I tagged earlier. But yeah, it's readily available and I figure most players want to go check out Skalitz at some point (it's one of the only map references when you're in Rattay, IIRC).

I've only really used longsword so far, picked up a hunting sword I need 1 more agility to use.

Tried shortsword with Bernard, liked it.

And yeah, I've actually gotten fairly good at dice.

Only one special die so far.

Yeah, you can collect dice that let you cheat, which is pretty funny. Not the best way to make cash or anything, but they're good to have on hand...for reasons.

Short swords I found to be particularly fun, which I did not expect.

Once I found a Stinger and had a little chuckle, I kept that sucker on me at all times.

That and a Raven something hammer.

Also a whole fucking mess of armor, I'm pretty kitted out and had about 5.4 k after selling the rest.

Couldn't find any other weapons and had to leave because of burden.

Got the perk that makes worn armor lighter.

It just never felt right after all the emphasis on the sword at the beginning, and knighthood in general.

I remember the best sword being a pain to get and me being relatively unimpressed. Cant even recall the name off the top of my head.

If it makes you feel better a knight of that era would never have used a sword if their aim was to actually kill another plate-wearing opponent. They are extremely bad at that. They would have all used hammers and maces.

St. George's sword? There's one as a treasure map (?) reward and it should spawn immediately, even without reading the map, so you can get it immediately if you know where to look. Forget how you get other one(s).
