I let this shit fly with subtitles because, fuck it, accuracy and all that. But if you're going through the trouble of dubbing something into a foreign language, there should be some attempt to localize the dialogue into something that *resembles* natural speaking.

Like, some of this shit just won't sound natural no matter what, like Weather Report going into a wikipedia lecture about zero gravity piss, but then you get weird lines like "His stand has a distance range!" or "His centrifugal force lets him shoot bullets with strong power!"

I can't even blame the translator for this. Probably a safe bet she was underpaid and rushed. >_>

This is one of the many pitfalls of dubbing. Voice acting has gotten fantastic over the years, with tons of top-tier talent available...

But damn do a lot of the translations/adaptations of the dialogue need some serious work.

For JoJo in particular, the dialogue just isn't natural anyway, even in the manga. Some of it could probably be adapted better, but a lot of it isn't.

"His centrifugal force lets him shoot bullets with strong power!"

That one isn't really odd enough to note really. Slightly odd wording but it still makes sense. I wouldn't bat an eye at that line.

The other one definitely is noticeably not how an English speaker would say it though." His stand has a long range!" or "His Stand has a distant range!" Or "His stand has a longer range then I expected!" sound better.

That line feels like a non native speaker's fansub/a not well proofread one from a native speaker with a funky autocorrect.

Not far enough in Stone Ocean to know what TC is talking about, but the dub varies between great and just alright depending on which season it is.

Usually the dub is really good and faithful to the Japanese (barring the changes in Stand names and such which they have no control over) with a lot of the English dialogue sounding a lot more fluent than what manga translations or the Japanese-audio subs give you.

That said, a lot of JoJo characters talk weirdly in general and go on long rants with strange metaphors and analogies that are really clunky to say. A line from Josuke in Part 4 springs to mind, where he says something like, "I feel as good as someone who just woke up on Christmas morning and put on a fresh pair of recently cleaned and warmed underwear." I don't know the exact sentence, but it was really long and run-on-y -- something that isn't going to sound natural regardless of how good the translation/localization is. The dub does a decent enough job from what I've heard of it to make those moments still sound natural enough, but it really just boils down to some lines being ridiculous in the first place.

On the other hand, Netflix handled this newest season, and Netflix is awful at how they handle their anime. So it's possible they just didn't pay enough for good translators.
